    Using a smaller Minie ball.

Before I found a miniball that worked, I was using a .562" round ball with 12 Oz. Denim patch in my .580" Armisport 1853 pattern Enfield. It shot very well, much better than any of the miniballs I had at the time.

    Using a smaller Minie ball.

What I bought, before I found one that would shoot, but was a bit large and required stiff thumb pressure, or a short starter to get started, too tight for skirmishes, so added a sizing die.

    Accuracy standard

"Perfect is the enemy of good!" The goal of these historical pioneers wasn't to win some prize or bragging rights, it was to survive in a world very different from the one we know today. Walking into an unexplored wilderness, traveling possibly hundreds or thousands of miles, for months or...

    Is Midwest Reloads legitimate?

Looks like typical scam, prices and availability of hard to find items are too good to be true, they only take Venmo, Zell, and PayPal friends and family etc... which have no recource if you don't get what you ordered. Probably from a foregn country.

Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

Ok, ordered. The Rapine 585510 shoots really well, but requires heavy thumb pressure or a short starter, and I was told that wouldn't be allowed in a Skirmish.

Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

Finally got together with Johnathan who used the pin guages and told me it guaged to 0.5805". So... should I order a 0.579 sizing die?

    Some newby questions

    1) I have just recently started casting my own lead. Mosty round balls and Mini's for the Musket. My last Midway USA order, added some Alox and a stick of Lyman super molly bullet lube in the basket to put me over the limit for free shipping, but am now realizing that I don't have a clue how to...

What gun for early 1700's Virginia.

I'm sure the histoians here will correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression that the early Virginia colony was basically the 17th century version of a penal colony / slave labor camp. Many if not most where dead within a couple years of arriving, they where starving, in fact the first...

Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

Well, since Patrick @ lodgewood said he couldn't help, I probably should have sold it and bought something else, but am too stubborn about stuff sometimes, so spent probably as much as the rifle cost, buying and trying used molds, Cast and tried a number of them today. Here where the results...

What gun for early 1700's Virginia.

Am curious to watch this thread, according to Ancestry, (not sure how much to believe), my first ancestor on this continent was a teenager from Sussex, who arrived at Isle of White Virginia as an endentured Servant to the Virginia Co. around 1620, don't know what the rules where, but doubt he...

Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

Pat said he had never heard of a lined bore that large, and couldn't help me. Have had several people tell me they just don't believe it's that large, have someone who knows what they are doing measure it. I asked a friend who works in a machine shop to borrow their pin Guage set and measure it...

    Italian maker's ID marks

This mark is on the underside of the barrel of a two band 58 Enfield rifled musket clone. Would this be an example of the DGG indicating Armi San Palo / EuroArms?

Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

I'm not sure, no manufacturer marks, but suspect it might have originally been Euroarms but am not sure. Don't recognize proof marks. Used 60gr Grafs FFg, and CCI musket caps. Tried to lube a couple of them with olive oil / beeswax, most wherent lubed at all. Was so loose, didn't see the...

    Choosing a melting furnace.

Trying to get started casting lead round balls for my T/C Hawken and black powder revolvers. Am sourcing equipment, have bought several molds and a ladel, ordered a Lyman Mag25 from ebay back in December, that never arrived, so got a refund from ebay. Still need something to melt the lead...
