Interesting Cap & Ball Paper Cartridge Information

Sure glad nothing like that goes on today! 🤔

    Reference material on percussion revolvers?

Agreed. Most are obsolete by the time they’re printed.

    Ruger Old Army

I’m hoping he lists the 5.5” version, can’t wait for the spin on that one!

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

That will do nicely for whatever you need to stay hit.

    Ruger Old Army

I’ve owned and used the ROA since they were first introduced. A wonderful revolver and I’ve never owned one that couldn’t be coaxed into producing gilt edged accuracy. I did not know that the design was based on the truly remarkable Colt 1858 Remington New Model Army! In that case I love them...

What is the deal with the fouling ring

Four ought stainless steel wool works better than anything else I’ve used. Fifty strokes of an oiled steel wool patch will make a difference.

    Reference material on percussion revolvers?

The Colt collectors website has some good info. Also, RL Wilson authored many books on antique firearms and is a widely recognized authority. Charles Pate is another. Haven and Belden are two more.

What do you guys lube your C&B revolvers with?

I use a veggie fiber wad sold by BACO, $20 for 1000. The .462”x .030” are perfect for my .45 rifles and the .45 daily carry revolvers as well. Most of the time I shoot conicals and they’re lubed in the grooves only with SPG/StihlSyntheticHP/and jojoba oil mixture. Great accuracy, zero leading...

    Uberti 1861 navy

The short arbor by itself won’t cause a windage error as you describe it. Just guessing but I think I’d check the alignment of the bore with the frame. Edit: D’uh! Like @smoothshooter already suggested…

    54 problems

It sounds like it’s not grouping well, different problem than shooting high. What load are you using?

    picked up some revolvers

In the case of the Ruger Mark I it’s really kind of understandable…

Love the signature line. My dad used to say that all the time…

Pietta 1858 New Army revolver and conical sizing

They’re an original design for Colt and Remington revolvers and they work just dandy.

New in the box c code 1851 colt

That’s a pretty good price for a really well kept piece. I don’t own anything I haven’t shot.

    R.Johnson model 1836

That’s only 25 yards. I’ll bet the gun will surprise you when you’ve got a good load sorted out.

Help a newbie understand what went wrong...

There you go… I met a guy at the Stock Show and we had made a trade for his Bisley Colt. I can’t remember what it was I traded but we met at that range to make the swap and shoot a bit. Left town in a snowstorm we would have largely missed had we not stopped to do the deal. Nothing quite like...

Help a newbie understand what went wrong...

There was one in Lakewood many years ago. I can’t recall the name or the street it was on but it’s probably buried under concrete and asphalt anyway.

Hunting loads for my .58 black powder rifle

My best friend has been retired from the DOW for jeez, 15 years now! I used to ***** about various rules and regulations to him, and then to his replacement. He always thought I pretty much did as I pleased on my own property anyway…

Hunting loads for my .58 black powder rifle

Colorado also allows hunters to use a 35# draw weight bow for elk and other big game. So a 35# Osage longbow casting a 400 grain arrow at probably less than 165fps is perfectly reasonable and lethal for elk and a 400 grain .40” bullet at 1300 fps is not. Make it make sense…

Hunting loads for my .58 black powder rifle

You might consider a .40 for that pronghorn rifle… 300-400 grain bullets are so pleasant to shoot!
