    .44 Revolvers, Largest Chambers' Diameter

Every Pietta Shooters Model I’ve had (maybe a half dozen so far) has had .455” chambers at a minimum, most were .456” and one had .457”. Those guns will shoot about as well as the shooter can manage but so can the Rugers quite often, and they seem to run .452-.454”. Charlie Hahn used to ream...

Heeled bullets for cap and ball revolvers

A friend of mine was attacked by a lion in Colorado. Archery season and he was cow calling and occasionally bugling. He said he had no clue she was there until he was sailing butt over teacups and when he landed her yearling kit hit him from the side while she continued mauling the hood of his...

Jay Massey used to do float trips down the Moose John River, was asked if a .357 Magnum would stop a Grizzly bear. “Oh heck yeah!” He said, “Eventually…”

    Misinformation on GB

It sure helps to get the final bid up there… giving folks time to get emotionally attached to the item in question and make a second, or third, or fourth higher bid seems to have that effect.

Wads Vs Lube Vs Paper Cartridges

I’ve never heard of any blackpowder revolver exploding unless loaded with smokeless powder. Ever. Chainfires, in my limited experience and from the comments of others are really a non event. The ball or bullet leaves the cylinder at a hundred or so fps, doesn’t do much except leave a smear of...

Wads Vs Lube Vs Paper Cartridges

One of my friends has been plagued with chainfires. I believe his loading technique (shaking hands tossing powder here, there, and everywhere.) is the culprit. Lately he started using the Pyrodex pellets and miraculously his chainfires have stopped… neatness counts.
