    Convenient grease

These aren’t mine, but no cotton, just lube with slightly more beeswax in it so it’s able to stay put when it’s smooshed into the chamber. Ox Yoke used to sell these little cakes of wonder lube specifically for percussion revolvers. Looks like track of the wolf still sells them. I tried a...

Ugly Sauce likes these and they don’t blow away when the adjacent chambers are fired.

    Chamber vs bullet size

Yet Pietta reams the same cylinder to .456”… if you’re concerned you might just buy the Shooters Model cylinder and install it into your revolver.

    Original from Uberti.

    Western Arms Corp. 1860 Army

I liked it immediately because it’s a little different on a cap gun… but it is very functional for me. Even with old eyes this gun is a shooter.

Maybe use a .36 barrel after having it bored and gain twist rifled .450/456 with an extension welded on the bottom lug to match the extended forcing cone.

COLT "PROTOTYPE" ARMY REVOLVER COPIED FROM WILLIAM B. EDWARDS' THE STORY OF COLT'S REVOLVER In 1859, Samuel Colt delivered his last order of M1847 Dragoon pistols to the Army. These heavy pistols were built of hammered steel, a low carbon steel that was comparably weak to modern gun steel. In...

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

The hardest lessons are the ones that stick with us… at least it’s been my experience. I’m not completely up on the dates yet but ruger began SA and the Old Army production with aluminum grip frames. Some people really like the balance others prefer the steel. I like the steel frame...

What did I buy? Remington New Model 1859?

Original Remingtons don’t seem to command the same prices as the Colts although, in the case of the OP’s pistol, in that condition an original would be maybe a 5 figure gun. Agreed, wrt the length to which people will go to avoid working for a living… it’s downright silly.

What did I buy? Remington New Model 1859?

You should check the rifling rate of twist and chamber diameters. Both would offer clues to the original manufacturer. Or, if you don’t care just shoot it a few thousand times… 😎

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

It is. All stainless guns have a steel grip frame.

You might as well have used a gun the way you stole that pistol! 😂

What did I buy? Remington New Model 1859?

Yes, he’s convinced it is a defarbed replica. There are some talented people in this field who can almost duplicate original stampings. It’s not cheap but if they had a mind to. Thankfully those who possess the skills and talent don’t have the will to cheat.
