I have been considering getting a cap maker for some time...I need to get one....I would be very interested in his die. They look very clean.

No Bear for us in Idaho

Beautiful country. The smaller bears are always real nervous around baits....especially if bigger bears are around. The darn things can be almost impossible to find....sometimes when they fall, you could swear they could hide in a shoe box! very easy to miss them...and you had really crappy...

Kibler fowler, a couple of photos,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Does the base model come with the carving, or is that an add on? I have to say I really wasnt initially interested in the fowler, but am now....increasingly curious.

New member in North Carolina from South Africa

Welcome from Upstate NY. I was lucky enough to spend a couple weeks in the Eastern Cape region, two years ago. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge here, but strictly centered on traditional muzzleloading (not modern ML or centerfire.

    Whom Used a Frizzen Stall?

I have one on my hunting flintlock. As I am more active carrying it in the woods/hunting, it is just an extra easy level of safety with a primed arm. I do not use one on my target rifles, as I prime only on the firing line.

Were mzldrs and revolvers cleaned back in the day, as we do today?

Certainly maintaining an arm was just as high a priority with the military as it is now. That being a given, our modern products and availability make it much easier for us (as well as time...our shooting is really all leisure time activity). I think for the average user, the arms were...

    Eye injuries from flintlock?

The only injury I ever witnessed with a flinter, was when I fried my supporting hand fingers supporting the stock too close to the lock! I had a great tatoo for a while...

    Carrying a pistol

You can for self defense, not for hunting.

Bow and arrow verses Flint Guns

I had read a fascinating article years ago....I do not remember where....That one on one, usually the indigenous/ locals owned the fight. Modern tactics/ weapons held complete superiority in larger group battles, generally. My guess is simple trained discipline went a long way there.

    Movies and original firearms

BAck in the day, original surplus arms could be had for next to nothing. In Sargeant York, it appears they are shooting original long rifles...keeping in mind, "antique/vintage" arms were not antique...or vintage at that time. In several relatively current /modern made movies, in particular I...

    Aperture sights

I have apertures (Lyman) on a Lyman GPR and a Thompson Renegade. Both barrels are routinely removed for cleaning. No concern about any change in zero.

    Kibler Fowler available.

Maybe a silly question....My wife is used to them...but historically for this firearms purpose, what were the most common barrel sizes, and intended game use? I know certainly "intended game use" was often circumstantial....I have read many accounts of bear/deer etc. getting blasted by whatever...

Should be back next week. I really hope to get involved...

    Muzzleloader magazine

Got mine a week ago. If I want to read to enjoy, I want the paper copy in my hands, myself. I save the copies, and go back to read articles I initially passed on.

    What Makes a "Better" Component?

Defining the word " quality" is much more difficult than it appears on the surface. See..."Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance".

    What Makes a "Better" Component?

Mass production vs specialty production. A product made for the masses cheap, or a quality more limited product designed and sold for a more discerning experienced clientelle.

Are cap rakes really necessary or a solution in search of any real problem ?

About two years ago I picked up a Pietta 1860. Some cap jam problems. After reading up on the forum, I settled down with some fine stones and sand paper and worked on the hammer face. About 100 rounds later, not a single jam. I love that gun. I have an 1862 from Uberti....I can usually cycle...

    White Deer

On the old Seneca Army Base in the NY Fingerlakes there is a herd of white deer. They originated from a pair of twins back in the fifties that recieved the base commanders protection....A dominant gene passed along, a few years later, there were and are more white (not albino) deer in the area...
