Did our forebearers use a shooting rest or stick for rifles?

Aint much under the sun....If we can figure out the advantage of something with our occasional hobby use, be sure those individuals who made a living with their arms and carried them all day long figured it out long ago. the heavy clumsy arms of the 17/a8th century petty much required a...

    Which Revolver?

I had a lot of luck with a recently purchased Pietta 1860. Well made and finished, available reasonably. Most all cap and ball revolvers need handiwork polishing, deburring, etc. . but mine minimally...I only needed to do some stoning and polishing to the hammer face to make it totally...

How did the itzie bitzie teenie weenie screws leave my work bench?????

Okay, Last night as I am emptying the dryer.....I see my long missing wedge sitting on top of the dryer. WTH? I hadnt done any shooting, cleaning, whatever in a month....It has been missing for six months at least. I carefully picked it up, walked to my desk and placed it in a corner organizer...

    To the older guys…

No one here that appreciates them. I have a number of historic items from our hometown, including a Springfield, that will be left to our historic center. Each of my friends will get a pick.

How did the itzie bitzie teenie weenie screws leave my work bench?????

How did the itzie bitzie teenie weenie screws leave my work bench?????

Amazing how that happens! One of my wedges for my GPR simply evaporated one afternoon, as I was preparing for a week end shoot. Luckily I had some steel stock and was able to ping together a totally useable replacement. I ordered a replacement, then ....low and behold, the old one showed up...

Kibler has announced a Hawken Kit in the works.

With the speculation as to the Hawken rifle and form....I think we can rest assured Kibler ...when he states "Hawken"....will be creating his rifle closely based on an actual Hawken shop rifle....not another 1/2 stock look alike...be it Lehman, etc. That still gives him quite a bit of lee way as...

$1,000 budget (set on stone): What should I recommend?

Two years ago I bought one of the Lyman Great Plains Rifles in flinter made by Pedersoli. It has a great double set trigger and leaf spring lock on it. I have a Kibler Colonial, and I or my shooting buddies cant tell the difference in lock speed. The Lyman can be found for well under a grand...

    Ignition WOES!!

a friend of mine periodically has alot of problems with misfires...by chance also a GPR, CCI primers....black powder. I am convinced he leaves a very wet breech. I use windex frequently for a quick range cleaning, but I am a firm believer that a good hot water plunge and scrub ultimatley does...

    Not toys

I get what Bunk is saying. We who are oriented to and love the black powder sports recognize our weapons for what they are, as a tool, weapon and art. There are a lot of folks who have the mind set that our "archaic" ... firearms are not to be taken seriously. they forget that it is only the...

    Don't Carve That Stock!

What did you use on your barrel?
  19. D

    Don't Carve That Stock!

And we cherish the historic arm with the owners name crudely carved in it, or a jack knife carved deer on the stock....Makes me wonder if two hundred years from now our rifles with "Jim Bob", or a "Squatch" carved in the side will also be looked upon as lovingly.....
