    Help, I have an Addiction!

They had a couple very nice sugar maple stocks that were a bit tempting. But there was one. Looked extra fancy with lots of that flame looking curl. It also had a couple of large staining areas that I thought added more interest. So a bit of a discount for that. I went back several times...

    Bazinga!!!!!! Cracked.... What to do?

Me? I would use it as a learning experience. I would try to see how much thin CA glue I could get down into the cracks and try to fill them from the worm hole also. Only as it was for myself. Regardless, I should learn something from doing it.

    Kibler's Hunting Pouch

When I got the emails, I thought that this was fantastic! I see it's even better with some of the constructive comments in this thread. This is a very affordable kit that is designed to help the maker succeed. Many of us out here really like working with our hands. I do not mean that which...

    Waxing rifle stocks

The following is my opinion, and not based on facts. Just a lifetime of observation. When it comes to firearms and tools, oil and wax have their place. If it's used often, an oily rag at the end of day and a quick wipe will keep metal in good condition. Those silicone impregnated cloths the...

Files for making barrel lug dovetails

Thanks all! My current triangle files are either too small, too worn, or too fine. I shall remedy that. Interesting use of the hacksaw and cold chisel. I never even thought of using a hacksaw, and several of you builders do that.

Files for making barrel lug dovetails

So the problem I have is, the lugs measure 470 thousands at the widest. My Grobet files are at least 520 thousands wide. I have dug through all I have and the older stuff just isn't suitable. Where are you guys finding good metal files a bit less than a 1/2" in width? Preferably no more than...

    kibler fowling piece

It appears that the fowler will have a gracefulness much like the Kibler SMR. Looking through the books, there are so many old makers that were a bit clunky in their designs. At least to my eye. I may have to wait a bit, but I will almost certainly be ordering a Kibler fowler.

If the images are a bit large, click on them and they get smaller. Weird that.

Kibler SMR & LMF Honey Maple eye candy

I bought this Kibler SMR .40cal about 2.5 years ago I think. Been sitting in it's box patiently waiting. Today it got some more sanding and then a good coat of Laurel Mountain Forge Honey Maple stain. I wanted a lighter colored rifle and this is looking mighty fine. Just the buttstock. I'll...

    Woodsrunner Arrived today!

Basically done for now. I suppose none of my projects are ever really done. I plan on polishing the lock. Started with some stones I bought for the purpose on the frizzen. Slow, but it will get the job done. Inside wintertime project. You real gun builders will know exactly what happened...

    My Kibler SMR Build Log

For grins and giggles, snap that piece of walnut again. Glue and clamp it with Titebond, Titebond II, or any quality wood glue. Let it dry. Sand and see how visible it is compared to that colored Starbond product.

Want for Kibler Colonial in Curly Maple?

Take classes! There are a number of them out there. Yeah, they cost money. The things you can learn are invaluable. Do not ever plan on getting rich quick building firearms. If you like working with your hands. Like working with wood and metal. Crafting muzzleloaders can be a very...

    My Kibler SMR Build Log

Yes, it is repairable. And it may never be noticeable. You have gotten some good advice. Understand how you have gotten to this point. Know that everyone has things happen. Maybe you need this experience to teach you. I also seem to learn the hard way sometimes. It will be okay.

    My Kibler SMR Build Log

Do not drill for screws too far back, or you will have to use very short screws. And there is a butt plate screw not far in.

Another thing you can do very simply, is to put the slightest bend in your pin. It needs to be very slight. That will tighten it up and hold as intended, without chipping out on the stock. Too much bend and it may chip out when removing it. But it's not something you take apart very often.

Tell me about the Kibler smr

If you should ever happen upon the book that has the photos of the Whitson rifle that the Jim Kibler SMR is based upon. The thing that stood out to me was how graceful the rifle is compared to most others in that book. Jim captured that in his design. Something about the proportions and the...

    Woodsrunner Arrived today!

Slowly working on it. I set it out today to bake in the sun. Multiple coats of tannic acid. Then multiple coats of aqua fortis. Rubbed back. Multiple coats of finish on. Rubbing it back more. Trying to get the right look. Not too dark. Not too shiney. I think it's real close. Let it...

    REN Wax

I like Renaissance Wax. For things not used often. Has a petroleum scent. Otherwise gun oils. Or those cloths from various sources, like Wilson Combat. Great for wiping down firearms used a lot. For a more durable hard wax finish, I have been using Alfie Shine. Made for tools. Like some...

    Kibler vs. TVM.

Call Kibler's Longrifles. Ask about the pricing on the in-the-white on all three models. You are not limited to the Woodsrunner. The SMR has a longer barrel and is very graceful and light. Some of that will depend upon the caliber. Sometimes, they will have an in-the-white rifle listed in...
