SOLD the book Flintlocks - a Practical Guide for their Use and Appreciation

Hi, Hawkeye Hugo! Yes, I still have a few copies. I am quite sure that the shipping to Belgium will add a little to the price of the book. If you wish, I will inquire at the post office and tell you what the postage to Belgium will cost. Thank you for your interest!

    Target Pistol

The suggested retail price for a Pedersoli Cook is $975. The fit, finish, and quality are excellent. My review of this pistol appeared in the December 2020 Muzzle Blasts magazine, pp.18-20. Also check out the target pistols by Tilo Dedinski of Kulmbach, Germany. You can easily find his home page...

SOLD the book Flintlocks - a Practical Guide for their Use and Appreciation

The NMLRA reports that this comprehensive book on flintlocks is sold out as of March 2021. I have on hand just a few copies to sell. The book is endorsed by some of the country's most distinguished gun makers and living history practitioners (Homer Dangler, David Price, Jack Brooks, Mike Miller...

    Unknown powder horn

Without the benefit of examining the horn in the flesh, I feel that this is a good antique horn, not a modern-day recreation. If it were mine, I would let it enjoy a long and well-deserved retirement. If you use this horn it will get scratched and dinged; why risk damage when modern-made horns...

CLOSED .350 round ball mold for 36 cal

It's always good to be set up to cast round balls. But I'll point out for the sake of convenience that Hornady sells .350 sprueless round balls (in addition to other sizes of buck shot) in five-pound boxes. I bought a box about two years ago for under $30. It has been a real time-saver.

    CLOSED .454 RB mold

I have a spare Lee 2-cavity round ball aluminum mold in .454. It has been used some, but it's in good condition. Please send me a private message and be patient for several hours - I have appointments that will take up part of today (Wed.). Thanks, Eric Bye

NEW (old) RIFLE - MAJOR PROBLEMS - NEED HELP & ADVICE!

Bud Siler stamped his locks CS (for Charles Siler) when he owned and operated his company (from the early 60s to about 1993, I believe, when. Jim Chambers bought the lock business). Siler locks are among the best, and many people are pleased to have an older lock with the CS mark. I have one...

Identifying this mark on siler lock

Hi, Rudyard, long time no see! What fun to hear from you again. Mighty glad you are still around and active. I am feeling better little by little and hope to be back to normal after a while. Keep the faith! Best wishes, Eric

Identifying this mark on siler lock

I am pretty new to this forum, and no quiz kid with the computer. I don't know how to private message either. Would it make sense for me to photograph the flint lock and send/post a photo? That way you would at least see what I have. Does it make sense for us to swap email addresses (or is that...

Identifying this mark on siler lock

I have one Sutter lock in percussion and another in flint - both seemingly the same pattern as yours. I bought the percussion lock in 1964 and used it for a few years on the first rifle I built. I have had the flintlock for a long time too, but I forget when I bought it. It has never been used...

    First time firing Flint Lock

The alignment of flash hole and pan is not ideal, but it may work OK. A different flash hole liner might help speed things up - one with a good cone on the inside. Otherwise, an easy fix is to use a Dremel or comparable rotary tool with an abrasive cylindrical bit. (Wear safety glasses!) You...

    Vermont Black Powder Firearm Laws

I have been a full-time resident of VT since 1973. The following comments are based on my experiences. You can order black powder and have it shipped to your home. There is a limit on how much you can store at one location, but that is a federal restriction, I believe: an individual can store up...

    Hello from North Britain.

Welcome from Vermont, the Green Mountain State. Many years ago two friends and I did a 17-day bicycle tour from Glasgow northward (Loch Lomond, Edinburgh, Inverness, Ben Nevis, Oban, Pitlochry, Cromarty Firth, Aviemore, Carbisdale Castle, Fortrose... [not necessarily in that order, of course])...

    Nipple seems too loose

Standard rifle size is 1/4" x 28 threads per inch. It's easy to find oversize nipples for sale (e.g. .255" x 28 tpi. You probably won't find them at a local sporting goods store, but Track of the Wolf and Dixie, among many others, probably offer them). Maybe you have a friend who owns a thread...

    Powder falling out

You can prime with 3F powder rather than 4F. (The British army used to prime the Brown Bess with 2F, after all...). The larger powder granules tend to stay where they belong. A further advantage to 3F is that it is more moisture resistant than 4F. Since you are aware of the disappearing act by...

    Trent Wren passing

Very sad indeed to learn of Trent's passing. He was kind and enthusiastic, and a willing contributor. We certainly will miss him. Eric Bye
