    Missed opportunities

Sounds like an exillerating experience. Sorry you didn't connect, but maybe you did? Sometimes spoor isn't as evident as we think it should be. Take solace in the fact that folks miss chip shots with scoped centerfire rifles, too. You, sir, have a far better excuse!

Hard, brittle, and fast PRB for more damage?

Yes, that was Thompson/ Center Arms. In their catalog a couple years before fading into obscurity. In my young years I wanted a set of those cutters that screwed onto the ramrod, but funds were scarce. Just as well, really not needed. The only times I want a fragmenting projectile are for...

Maxis don't deform? Aww.. seeing is believing

Shot my first deer with a T/C Maxiball. Killed her quickly after a run through the trees. Then T/C came out with the Maxihunter conical. I cast a couple thousand of those and they killed well. A bit more expansion, which is what I wanted. The past 10 years I've used PRB after running out of...

Little Bro Tries The Holy Black

MaxiBalls or Maxihunters were accurate for me. I preferred the Maxihunter for better expansion, but wouldn't turn down either.

    Rabbit hunting and gear

'I waited where she took off from but she stopped barking after 15 mins. Came back.. I was like that's it? Got away. A mouse maybe.' I've trained beagles when younger. Much fun, and frustration, but good memories. Beagles don't catch rabbits, they just trail them. A dog with a good nose may...

    NY ML season

Good for your success. I purchased an older. 54 GPR about 3 years ago. Settled on the 80 grain load of FFFg under a PRB, too. My first opportunity resulted in an initial hammer fall with no pop/boom. The doe was alerted but stood for a second try. It went Boom, but I clean missed. Changed...

    Freezer is full!

Pretty good story telln in my book. Thanks for taking us there. I miss spending time out west. Since my oldest moved back in 2021 I've not taken the trip. Assisting the ranchers with the vermin problem is a hoot. But spending time in a backcountry camp still calls to me. Glad of your...

Congratulations. Nice Mule Deer buck you shot. How about some particulars on the hunts, rifle and experiences? We fellows will enjoy the story.

Range Test: .45Cal Double PRB deer load

Good question. Hope someone chines in to answer. I've read a couple articles about this over the years. One was an accidental second ball load where the writer was shooting at an exotic 60 yards off. The deer sized animal dropped in its tracks. He was stunned to see two holes and realized...

    lee 501 cast bullet in a 1-48"

That's a fascinating load that Ron uses, to good effect. My load of 65gr of FFFg under the 50 caliber pure lead T/C 355gr Maxihunter conical cronagraphed at 1,180 fps out of the 26" Renegade barrel. That was with the 1"/48" twist. You should be close.

    .54 Cal. Nevada Antelope

Had a buddy from Cheyenne, WY back in the 90's who ranked antelope hunting as his favorite game to hunt. He was pursuing them with BP, which I introduced him to, before he passed away before his time. Maybe some day I'll apply for a tag and enjoy this type of hunt, also. Glad for your success.

    RLO No-drill slings for Cherokee/Seneca - Thoughts/Experience?

As a side note, I crafted this buttstock pad/sling connector for a lever action last Fall. It does work very well on a stout recoiling rifle. No Marring. Only leather touches the stock.

    RLO No-drill slings for Cherokee/Seneca - Thoughts/Experience?

It may be true that my handsome little TC Cherokee is not a collectors item, but I cannot accept an unnecessary hole in it's buttstock or forearm for a bit of convenience. I'll keep unlacing the barrel loop to remove that tube for cleaning. I put too much work into that kit rifle in the...

This is a fantastic recipe. ChristopherO tested and approved! Pressure Cookers are indispensable. Very quick and easy learning curve. I've been using my Grandmother's cookers she bought in the 40's and 50's. Parts are still available, too.

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

You influenceers got the better of me on this sunny Sunday afternoon. Pulled the ol Cherokee out to finesse the load some more off the bench at 25 yards. Capped the session off with Yellowhammer's squirrel target. Not quite between the eyes, but a dead squirrel, nonetheless. It was quite...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I read an article about 38 years ago of a fellow hunting with the .32. That influenced my choice when purchasing a .32 Thompson Center Cherokee kit the next Spring. (That, and that I was wanting something with more knock down than the Round Nose 22's LR I had been using at that time. I've...
