16th Century ‘Tinder’ Snapping Matchlock Arquebus & Tinder Sticks

Another excellent research video by CapandBall!

    cutting and crowning a barrel

I'd re-crown 1st and see how it shot, as that crown is BAD! But also, different barrels like different loads ... if you haven't yet tried this method ... you should. https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/importance-of-%E2%80%98load-development%E2%80%99-to-find-the-best-group.169960/

RARE 6-barreled manually rotated Japanese ‘Tanagashima’ snapping matchlock

Ooohhh … I must build me one!

    Sight Placement, Especially Rear

Aperture 'peep' sights definitely work best close to the eye, which will naturally center it. But also try putting an aperture on your shooting glasses! With my rear sight blade 10" forward of the breech plug line, I can see the sights as clearly now as when I could when i was far, far younger...

My latest daydream: A Kibler escopeta ...

From my files here are some great articles on the Spanish Miquelet lock ... and the Spanish Escopeta!

    Interesting Powder measure feature

... or glue-in, using animal glue of course, a white porcupine quill to serve as the line, lol!

    The Spanish Miquelet musket

    Hey ... it's Left-Handed! LOL ..

    Importance of Load Devolopment

Good eyes ... but upon further review (via cyberspace, as it is not my BP Arm ... ) it looks like that perhaps a sideways 'U'-shaped piece once broke out and was glued back in?

    54 Caliber Woodsrunner Hunting Loads

Sight-in @ 75Yds is awesome for MZL’dr hunting. This ballistics chart (by Garmin chronograph) is for a 54-cal Virginia LH’d, but otherwise pretty much identical to the Kibler. Load = 80-grns Goex 3Fg, red stripe pillow ticking patch, mink oil lube; shoots a nickle-sized 5-hole group @ 50Yds...

Asking for help with a Rifle Shoppe Baker Rifle: groups at 50 yards have become dreadful.

Ummmm ... just be AWARE that that what he thinks is a Node ... may NOT be an accuracy Node once the barrel is in the stock (never mind that most propellant arms will have 2 or more accuracy nodes, whilst ringing a barrel identifies one 'something'). If you truly want to identify an accuracy...

Best product to clean neglected Thompson Center Hawken 50 Cal

I tell you ... buy these $6 cleaner pads and you'll never use steel wool again. In fact, I NEVER use steel wood in my machine shop or for any wood work. (Note the Big45 cleaner is for metal only).

Anyone ever hunt with a handgonne?

... maybe ONLY if you had a deer within 15' that was not looking at you and didn't smell your lit punk ... But otherwise, ... these were not hunting arms. I mean, one could also try to take one down with a Viktorinox Swiss Army knife, but otherwise, c'mon man ... get real, LOL!

Best product to clean neglected Thompson Center Hawken 50 Cal

Even if some rust on the blued exterior piece, that Frontier 'Big 45' monel cleaning pad is the bomb! It removes rust without removing a blued or browned finish. Needless to say, some wrapped around a brush is awesome in the bore too! See here...

Asking for help with a Rifle Shoppe Baker Rifle: groups at 50 yards have become dreadful.

I.m not @Eterry and didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night, but set the rifle up over sandbags, where you want to be sitting as upright as you can to mimic your posture if shooting offhand. Sitting low and crouched over is gonna hurt! Also use a thick padded glove to hold the forend with your...

Asking for help with a Rifle Shoppe Baker Rifle: groups at 50 yards have become dreadful.

^^^Truth^^^ ... Newton's 3rd Law of Physics in action! Simple ... time ... the bullet is mostly exiting - but not quite - by the time one "feels" and their body responds to the recoil 'moment' (another physics term).

    A "Powder Strength Testing Device"

Found another really interesting one, where the exploding 'test' charge expels the counter-weight upwards, to be recorded on a scale.

    Importance of Load Devolopment

FYI, due to some PM questions, I've updated my picture to more clearly illustrate why finding the accuracy node of any firearm that shoots a projectile (BP or modern) is so critical to accuracy, i.e., you want to find the load charge where the load exits the muzzle - which is vibrating like a...

    Kibler Brown Bess?

OMG ... to me this would be THE biggest waste of talent and time for the Kibler operation, LOL!
