Isn't this interesting...a cap gun...I had no clue!

The cap actually rested 'on' the nipple, much like a Perc cap does ... so they needed the nipple for the ignition flame path.

    Hi, question musket

FWIW those HUGE dome head butt plate screws were also found on Dutch military muskets and typically ... 2 of them!

    Poor man’s guns

… give it up, the same old song just ain’t playing well on this channel brother … We all understand the issue, that that still use is not specifically rated as a ‘gun’ barrel steel. First off I would say what is the AISI definition of a gun? They could be referring to modern centerfire...

    Poor man’s guns

Let it be known … that by itself means absolutely nothing … Fresh off on DoM tubing there is hot drawn and cold drawn, the poster De Land attribute both as the same, but they are not, which is just further proof of his utter ignorance … You can look it up, but I have posted here before DoM...

    Poor man’s guns

I noticed you completely avoided the question and challenge … If you wish to continue on this personal crusade to have vendors switch over to 4140 steel or something similar … get off your horse and do something about it. Write to them … just don’t ***** to us.

    Poor man’s guns

Please post your college degree(s) in Engineering so we can see them ... or please enlighten us on the kinetic factors involved in the precipitate phases for the ferrite or austenite phases? Or explain the relationships of the K, L, M & N shells? And how many were EXPRESSLY DoM barrels for...

OLD original barrels - what to build?

YOU nailed it … I think I found one, or a stock shape to copy anyways (the one in color below), an original dated to 1520 by the late Michael ‘Matchlock’ Tromner, who spent the last 40+ years of his life documenting the early arms. Although that one has no spiral/fluted barrel … look at the...

    Mainspring Fabrication

What gets me about spring making is ... I went to ~5 sources (e.g., Track, Kit Ravenshear, The Rifle Shoppe, Dixie GW, etc.) and got 8 recipes, all quite different!

    Germanic Flintlocks

Nice pieces! Haha, but I don't really care where they allegedly originated from or ended up, as those words there make NO SENSE when used together in the same sentance ... as 'donderbusche's" were predominantly anti-personnel arms.
