My, my … now THOSE are bigguns!

Big black powder shoot today. We had a flintlock wall gun, 4 bore, the ball weigh 4 ounces and are almost 1” in diameter. We were shooting 300-grain loads. I also had my swivel gone, shooting golf balls with 400-grain loads. Then left to right … a 32, 54, 75 & 4-Bore roundballs. FYI, the wall...

    Escopetas again

Not for the feint of heart ... as one of our MZL Members here just tried that ... but in another Country - not in India, and not for a Miquelet - but they lo$t a ton of $$$ in the process; after months and months of work and overseas trips ...

    Unique Cases- Update

OCT 2024: Ordered 2 cases from Jerry; 62" and 66" ones on Monday of this week and I just got them today on Thursday. They are phenomenal soft cases for long muskets or longrifles ... at least when you don't want to use your period correct wool one, LOL! Plus with the long outside compartment to...

    The ‘Janka’ wood hardness scale

I had not seen this before, although I knew such a scale existed. It would be great if we could find one of all the typical gun woods, including the woods varieties like sugar maple or such. Anyways, I thought it was interesting and that others might like to see it too!

2 Rifles with Stripped Nipple Channels

You can DIY it … Track of the Wolf sells oversize nipples for such occasions.

    Vent Pick Storage

Sharp? Why? Not needed ... you're not picking concrete ... In fact, you're NOT, or shouldn't be, picking anything. I see too many people using vent picks that are picking so durn hard that they end up pushing the main charge powder AWAY from the touch hole, especially on internally coned ones...

Wanting a swivel gun or similar

Dom Carpenter is the man! Makes them from 50-cal to 75-cal to 1” bore, to 4-Bore, to golf ball bore to billiard ball bore to Bowling Ball bores! He might even make just ‘thunder mugs’ for blanks, like you desire. PM me for his email me … This is my golf ball one. NOTE: Being a ‘breech...

    Possible gunpowder related tragedy

First, to the OP, so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and prayers the surviving friend heals well. I'd say more so due to Lawyers than any alleged safety concern per se. Plus easier machining anf forming, at least from a production point of view. Oh, and also to increase sales .. to...

Hunting - Need your clean/cold bore 1st shot to hit w/ the rest of the shots?

I know ... as you and I have discussed this before on posts and via PMs. I recall even messaging you one time asking, "How the heck are you managing that?" But sometimes it works for me and sometimes not, less variation on rifles of course. Anyways ... it works for me so I'm happy!

    Patterning navy double 12 gauge

What is the purpose of a greased patterning board? And whaddya do ... ? Swipe it with a squeegee or something after each shot? I get that's it resuable, without replacing cardboard or paper ... just want to know the principle behind it. Thank! I really like the concept!

    Nice snaplock serpentine!

… albeit a little over the top on the rest … and definitely NOT for someone left-handed, LOL!

Hunting - Need your clean/cold bore 1st shot to hit w/ the rest of the shots?

Try this! This is a tip I learned from Eric Cortina, THE National Champion F-Class, 1000-yard shooter, using modern centerfire rifles, as when not shooting MZL’drs, I shoot sub-F-Class out to 600-yards. But I applied it to black powder rifles, and it works! Many MZL rifles or muskets will NOT...

Importance of ‘load development’ to find the BEST group!

More proof that load development works! I’ll spare you the load development target, but here’s some proof, albeit I need to tap the front sight to the left a tad, to move the group right a bit. This was 3-shots, 50-yards benched, 80-grns 3Fg, in a 54-cal using mink oiled red-striped pillow...
