    Gun Cabinet for muzzleloaders

Viable Option - The arms are in the tall cabinet and the locks for them are locked away in a safe or hidden in some other area/locale ... even if only whilst away traveling.

    Gun Cabinet for muzzleloaders

FWIW I found an old machine /tool shop vertical tool cabinet on craigslist for 50 bucks. It is not a safe by any stretch of imagination, but it is made of heavier gauge metal than your typical StackOn ‘security’ cabinets. It also has locking bars at the top and bottom and then in the middle...

Where to get .69 Cal round ball?

FWIW Eddie May is still in business ... As of March 2024 I had paid $14 per 100 for 58-cal (0.562") and $15 per 100 for 62-cal (0.600"), but although it's been a few years, the big 75-cals (0.715" or 0.730") were priced then @ $25 per 100. Call Ed, confirm pricing and how many he can ship in...

Acquired a "Beretta" O/U with rare accessories

Not ‘allegedly’, they DID make them for Beretta and more importantly … they them to Beretta’s quality standards! FWIW I have an original ASM build, which was made from left over parts after the Beretta contract had expired. While ‘nice’, it is not of the same build quality that you have. Great...

WANTED someone to engrave a patch box cover for me.

Ditto Chuck Edwards! FYI, anyone interested can reach Chuck Edwards for any engraving work at his email, at ‘Wipingstick at msn dot com’. You know the drill, insert the ‘@‘ for ‘at’ and the ‘.’ for ‘dot’, and then eliminate all of the spaces, lol … just to beat the AI robots!

    Snaphaunce Lock problems??

Here are some original patrons from the collection of the late Michael . Excellent question and you are quite correct to point that out! Unfortunately, I have so many books on matchlocks and/or early arms that I have regretfully not copied such things into notes for ‘ready retrieval’...

    Snaphaunce Lock problems??

FYI, historically they were NEVER called “12 Apostles” until someone in modern times coined the term … Personally I wish it would stop. In fact, most historical originals were not even 12, but of anywhere from 8 to 14 ‘chargers’, which is the correct term for them.

    Snaphaunce Lock problems??

Interesting, as from San Antonio, TX … (after the collector passed away) … I too bought a half-stock rifle that Brian had built, but it wears his ‘tulip’ maker’s mark, not his name. (Note, a different gun w/ his mark is shown below.) Maker’s Mark Photos of the snaphaunce

This simple idea was and still is genius.

Love it! FWIW, less not being truly ‘inline’, under hammers also make use of the trigger guard being the main spring.

    Earliest rifled artillery?

Went to Fort Macon in NC, on the southern outer banks last week. It said that 32-pound rifled cannons during the Civil War, placed miles away, blasted away such that the Fort surrendered after 2-days. There was a placard at that Fort that said it was 1st used against Fort Pulaski in Georgia...

IAB Marcheno info sought about the company

Appears that during or up to the 1980s the firm produced their medal winning competition shotguns alongside replicas of the Sharps rifle. Most online info focuses on their high-end shotguns. It is believed that sometime in the late 1980s or early 90s, they discontinued production of the...

    Portable stand for swivel gun

Well, not to be overly technical, but to educate ... it's a "Swivel Gonne", not a cannon ... at least those States requiring special 'Cannon Licenses', whereas cannons are muzzleloaders and remaining sparks in the breech are the HUGE safety concern.

    Pyrodex in a hand gonne?

Great question, not sure if a fuse would set it off. But it would work with a “duplex load”, i.e., 10 grains of real BP under 40 grains of Pyrodex, or similar. I have a few hand gonnes and some Pyrodex on hand, just not sure when I’ll get to testing that!
