    Early PA season begins today

Big Tom, Sometimes being late pays off. I used to hunt with a guy that had to be on stand an hour before daylight. Where I hunt now, I don't see any deer until about an hour after daylight. I still like to be in the stand a little before daylight though in case that ever changes.

    Early PA season begins today

Today is the last day. Great weather. Unfortunately, I never go out due to wife's medical issues and doctor appointments. But near me is Pinchot State Park. They only allow archery, ML, and shotgun slugs for regular deer season. I was able to get an antlerless tag for that area, so I am...

FOR SALE Lyman Deerstalker, brand new and unfired!

OK. I already bought a cap, and a Lyman 57 sight, in the mean time. I didn't realize that yours was a cap. But I am still looking for a reasonably priced flint. Old style, with the dovetail sights. Regards, Bill

    Early PA season begins today

We are the only state that has a flintlock-only season as well. It is after Christmas for about 3 weeks. I love hunting in the cold and occasional snow but the deer are crazy. Many harvested, and all of them chased or shot at, so they are really on edge. I have never taken one in this season...

    Early PA season begins today

Here in PA we have a week long ML season for antlerless deer. Flints, caps, or even in-lines. I was looking forward to getting out with my new-to-me Deerstalker cap. I used this season as justification to buy the gun. In previous years I carried my flintlock, of whatever model I had at the...

    How often to disassemble lock?

The only time I has disassembled a lock was to polish the parts for better trigger pull. I clean with hot soapy water, GunScrubber, and then 1000+ on a toothbrush as a protector against rust.

    Just about fed up…

How about replacing the nipple? That would be the first place to start for me. There may be a piece of cap in there.

FOR SALE Lyman Deer Stalker 54 cal

Based on the sights and wood, I would say this is one of the last ones made. I have been looking for an older flinter in .50 for several months now. You just don't see these come up often. Price is really good.

I have a new in the pack 1/4x20 Hot Shot nipple. I received it from a generous member here in along with another for my Deerstalker. Since this one is for the T/C guns, it is available for someone who needs one. If you don't need it, leave it go to someone who does. Free to a good home...USPS...

Bigsky has two nice guns for sale. A SILE .50 flint and a Lyman .54 Deerstalker flint. I am still looking for a Lyman .50 flint

T/C #7194 tang mounted peep sight

I missed this one for sale on another site. Crazy expensive but much more compact than the Lyman 57 I have on my Deerstalker cap.

    Woodsrunner Ready for Fall

Yesterday I took the Deerstalker to the range for the first time. First few groups were disappointing, even for a production 1-48" twist gun. While my old T/C Hawken likes a .495 ball and .015 patch, this likes a .490 and .020 patch. Better groups. Running around 1 1/2" at 50 yards. So try...

    They still worked...most of them

Despite the rain, I finally went to the range to shoot my new-to-me Deerstalker caplock. I had been having trouble finding caps, but did find some CCI #11 at a LGS. In the bottom of my range box I found some old Remington in a tin along with a capper that still was mostly full. These had to be...
