    Woodsrunner Ready for Fall

That gun will shoot better. It just takes a bit of experimentation with charge and patch. My .54 flinters always seemed to like 90 grains of FFFg. T/C and Lyman Deerstalkers. Sometimes guns will prefer a .535 ball and .015 patch. Others, a .530 ball and .020 patch. Different patch lubes can...

    Please help to identify flintlock........Thanks!!!

If it was mine, I would have a set of sights silver soldered onto it. What is the bore? .62 or .75?

    Steel shot?

Here is where you need to go... https://www.ballisticproducts.com/Shot/departments/63/ You can always call them. When we had to go to steel shot, I found it horrible. Fast initially but due to light pellet weight it dropped off past 20 yards. And I had to go to larger shot size, which opened...

    WANTED WTB .510 RB mould

That is an usual size. Might check with Buffalo Arms. Probably didn't want to spend that much.

Newbie Question: Which side of the patch do I grease?

Also, try different patch thicknesses. My Thompson Hawken flint likes a .495 ball and .015 patch. For many years I shot .54 with .530 ball and .020 patch. Have not yet been able to shoot my .50 Deerstalker cap, but we will have to see what it likes

Newbie Question: Which side of the patch do I grease?

I buy them pre-cut and pre-lubed. I guess it shows I am lazier than others.

    FFg in a .45

I don't shoot FFG but if you have a stockpile, it is what I would shoot. . Maybe you can swap some for FFFg and try that. Even if the FFFg shoots better, I would just use the FFg for range and practice.

    Better off buying a gun?

The price of a barrel and lock puts me at $499 before shipping and taxes. No savings but might be the only option. Or just keep shooting my old T/C Hawken

What to do with pan primer?

I have one of the spring lever priming flasks. Unfortunately FFFFg leaks out of it, a bit. I tapped the spout and use a small machine bolt in it. I have a pour spout on the can but keep it on another bench (left of the shooting bench), with the measure over the spout. The priming flask goes...

    PA Muzzleloader regs

My early season "cheating" is going to extend to a caplock Deerstalker with Lyman 57 peep. Pure lead projectiles? California is screaming!

    Cleaning Frontier Firearms

Proper maintenance of any tool is essential. Especially when you might only have one available, and replacement is far away. I would think that at least run a patch or two down the barrel up to the loaded chamber.

3F powder vs. 2F in .54cal flintlock rifle

The old Lyman BP Handbook had an article detailing FFg vs FFFg in a .54 rifle. They found that 70 grains of FFFg performed as 90 grains of FFg. I am cheap so I shoot FFFg. 80 grains in .50 cal and 90 grains in .54 rifles has always seemed to be the best RB loads for me. As is often quoted...

    PA Muzzleloader regs

We have an early season (week long) ML season for antlerless deer in mid-late October. While flintlocks only are allowed in the late season, after Christmas, The Game Commission allows in-lines, even with scopes, as well as the rest of us (cap lock and flinters). But for some reason, a Sharps...

    Better off buying a gun?

Sadly, I hate the new guns with the fiber optic sights. I am looking for an older gun that has the dovetail sight cuts in the barrel. I do see that they carry the locks. A flintlock barrel still eludes me. Thanks

    Flints life.

I try and buy flints in two shapes. Long taper for hunting. Hot sparks but don't last long. And then beefier for range use. I have had some that were too long and required me to remove some material from the back of the flint. I never did have any luck with the manufactured stuff. But they...

CLOSED 1855 or 1861 rifle musket barrel bands

https://www.ssfirearms.com/ I have not dealt with them in a while, but I bought parts for Trapdoors and a Sharps carbine from them

FOR SALE Reduced Lyman Great Plains Rifle. 50 Caliber. 1985 Build Date

And it even has the correct rear sight. Remember that "adjustable" sight Lyman used to send along? Terrible slop and wobble.

    3F in a .54?

I have owned T/C Renegades and Lyman Deerstalker in .54 caliber. Each seemed to like 90 grains of FFFg and a patched round-ball. Well, all I ever shot was patched round-ball. I tried Great Plains and Maxi ball and Maxi hunter bullets. Recoil was just too heavy for me. FFFg burns cleaner...

    Lyman 57 SML hardware needed

Can anyone tell me the size and specs of the forward tang screw on the Lyman 57SML? I bought one but that screws is missing so I was hoping to get the specs and find one locally. I have lost seller's info. Next step will be trying to get through to Lyman Customer Service.
