    H & R Springfield Stalker

A ML that tries to look like a Springfield carbine.

    Track of the Wolf

My closest ML shop is an hour away. To make the trip worthwhile I try to pick up a few when I go there for anything else. Currently looking for #11 caps and it seems these will require a trip, so I plan on picking up a few more.

    Lyman 57SML vs 57GPR?

So what is the difference? It looks like they have different angles on the tang. What am I missing? There has to be a reason for two different models.

WANTED Lyman 57 sight for Lyman Deerstalker

Ebay has them as well. I was hoping for a used one.

WANTED Lyman Deerstalker flint, .50 cal

I posted a companion ad under "Accessories" where I am looking for a Lyman 57 sight for such a rifle.

WANTED Lyman 57 sight for Lyman Deerstalker

Anyone have one laying around that they would sell at a decent price?

    load question

I shoot FFFg Goex in my .50 cal flint. I also shot it in the several .54 cal guns that I have owned. Pyrodex is harder to ignite, and I never found the need for it. Cleaner and faster. An old Lyman book shows they achieved same velocity with 70 grains of FFFg as they did with 90 grains of FFg...

    Converting to musket caps?

I know that nipples are available to convert standard cap to musket cap. But I have seen reports where shooters had trouble with ignition due to the face of the hammer being recessed. What has been your experience?

A Tale of Two 1861 Enfield Musketoons

I had one years ago and gave up on it as I couldn't get it to shoot accurately with any Minnie, only patched round ball.

    T/C 15/16" barrel

You probably won't get him to answer, but Bob Hoyt would know. He is crazy busy so phone calls are often not answered for days

WANTED Lyman Deerstalker flint, .50 cal

CLOSED FOUND T/C Cherokee lock plate screw bushing (Tear drop shaped)

Maybe make one? Brass stock is cheap and easy to work.

    Notch in hammer cup

Makes it easier to remove the cap if it sticks to the hammer?

    Deer Stalker on the way...

The Lyman is the way to go, but I just can't afford a new one. Used ones are just not to be found right now. I had tried to buy a gun with one on it but the bidding went too high. Peep is much easier for my eyes to see.

    Deer Stalker on the way...

I am scheduled to meet a guy on Saturday to pick up a Deerstalker in .50 cal, cap. Finding caps in my area is a pain. I know some guys found them at Walmart, but the ones near me are not carrying them. Might have to make the hour drive to a good ML shop. But maybe he will have a better rear...

    Hard to find flintlock

Eric, I like that. I have trouble with the little bump sights on my Trapdoor carbine and Sharps. I have to put on reading glasses to see the rear sight.

    Hoyt Rebore

He has done single shots. I had two done. One was a Springfield 1871 rolling block that someone had reamed out the chamber to fire 28-gauge shotgun shells. He did a chamber and liner for me, as well as repair of the extractor. He later did a Springfield 1879 carbine that has a bad pitted...

    Hard to find flintlock

Over the past few months I have been checking on availability of an older Lyman Deerstalker in .50 flint. I know there was a bunch of these made but they are hard to find. I hate the new ones with the fiber optics so looking for the old style with the dovetails in the barrel. I guess it speaks...

I just buy them pre-lubed. Easiest of all.
