Got #11 CCI caps in Walmart today

I keep checking locally but so far... nothing. I try searching on-line via Walmart.com but they are not listed. Did you just wander into the store and find them?

SOLD T/C Hawken .50 caplock. Appears unfired!

I will consider selling without the peep sight.

    TC Hawken

I shoot RB. I tried the REAL bullets in both a Lyman and a T/C. Not impressed with either. In .50 I shoot 80 grains of FFFg as my "go-to" load". In .54, it was 90 grains of FFFg. Going heavier in charges, I lost group size and had more unburned powder.

    T/C Hawken RB barrel?

I recently saw a genuine T/C Hawken with a factory marked barrel indicating 1-66" twist. I never knew they made such a thing. I would assume that they shoot as well as my Green Mountain barrel did...

SOLD T/C Hawken .50 caplock. Appears unfired!

SUPER nice T/C gun that is too nice for me to take hunting. Appears unfired. Original barrel sight and tang peep included. $505 shipped to lower 48. Ask me about payment methods...

    Too nice to shoot.

Going up for sale to fund a more suitable hunting gun.

    WANTED Flint lock

Spend some time narrowing down your choices via reviews of different guns.

Cheap imported flintlock rifles from the 80s.

Kassner did a lot of cheap imports. Thye used to be located just outside of Harrisburg, PA. I worked night shifts on the PD there. It was easy to pick up a small bucket of fired brass at their range from all of their test firing. I had one of their Italian O/U guns until I found that the...

    Indian Baker Rifle first impression

Most smooth bores don't have a rear sight, so good find. I run into a big ML guy at the range on occasion. He is a firm believer in load experimentation. Particularly with a nitro card over the powder, then a lubed fiber wad, then patched ball.

    Re-vamp the site?

I am fortunate in that my wife does not care what bows or guns I buy. I learned my lesson and now have a $$$ stash in the gun safe in case something pops up in the "gotta have" catagory.

    WANTED Flint lock

Buy a good production gun.. T/C or Lyman. The money will be well spent vs others. The T/C Renegade has less drop in the stock than their Hawken so despite my love of the looks of the Renegade, I now shoot the Hawkens.

    Re-vamp the site?

I would like this site a whole lot better if the format was changed so that classified are hard to find... How about it? First thing that I do is check the ads, then look at threads in flintlocks and then caplocks. I am not needing anything, but I keep looking.

How did the bore diameters like say .54 become established ?

Here is some insight into Lewis and Clark's expedition firearms https://lewis-clark.org/tools-and-techniques/weapons/muskets-and-rifles/

    Too nice to shoot.

Solanco, I have never lost money on a gun. Lucky, I guess. But I don't buy on impulse, or try not to do so. And to follow up on your earlier post, I probably will sell it to regain my investment.

    Heartbreaks

I once had a badly pitted Renegade barrel. I knew that when I bought it. It had sat uncleaned for several years. I had Bob recut the .50 to a .54 rifled for round ball. Well worth it.

    Heartbreaks

I would first shoot the gun to see how it groups. It might surprise you. I have a Springfield TD carbine that had a large, pitted section. You could feel it with a tight patch. I shot it for many years as it was before breaking down and having Bob Hoyt re-line the barrel. It now has a...

How did the bore diameters like say .54 become established ?

I have a Sharps 1859 conversion carbine with original paper patch barrel. They were listed as .52 cal. but when the breech blocks were replaced with the 50-70 breech blocks, they became 50 Govt. Bore is .515". Reproduction guns in 50-70 Govt tend to run .510 bores.

    Too nice to shoot.

I just received a T/C Hawken cap lock with a tang peep. Barrel sights too. Listed as "used". When I got it, I am convinced that it was never fired. Brass is bright and shiny. Nipple doesn't show any sign of hammer strike. I think I will go with something in a little ore "hunting...

    T/C stock refinish question

I have an old T/C Hawken that I bought from a friend that needed the money. It is in need of TLC. I have already dealt with the rust and bore. The stock has several deep gouges to the finish. Not into the wood though. What would you recommend removing the original finish and then what to use...
