How to get dull finish browning a barrel ?

I usually sand down to 220 or 320. I then use Tracks Tried & True Browning. It gives a nice satin brown finish. I finish with either 0000 steel wool or denim and 30 weight motor oil.

    Inletting Black

Hey HighUintas, I'm not sure if its the same, but it sounds like it. A little goes a long way. I also used too much the first time. I was able to do most of the inletting on one rifle without having to put any on brush.

A lil embarrassed to admit but I'm struggling to inlet a Kibler Colonial kit

I started work on a Kibler Colonial that had been sitting in its box for over a year. I have not had any problems with the fit of the stock. I'm not sure if it matters, but I live in SoCal.

the perfect after cleaning bore oil?

For those who don't like the smell of Ballistol I have a solution. Take a patch and cover it with Hoppes 9 and put it on the work bench. It will mask the smell of the Ballistol.

    Aqua Fortis

I've always been a walnut guy and have never done a curly maple stock or used aqua fortis before, and I have a couple of questions. The rifle I'm building has a sliding wood patch box lid/cover. I was wondering how one should finish this. Do you use aqua fortis on the interior of the patch box...

I am a big fan of 3-in-one oil and have been using it for a long time. I've also used Ballistol and it works too.

    Brown, blue, or naturally aged?

I think either a blue or brown finish would look good on that rifle.

I've never tried it, but I heard brown shoe polish works also.
