What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Deer Creek Supplies... another vendor to bookmark :thumb: I put some lead downrange again using the TC Hawken. I honestly don't know if it's me or the gun, but I get decent groups... they are just all over the place, lol. I know that my eyes are struggling with a full buckhorn. Especially one...

    Pedersoli 1859 Sharps rifle bullet

Seriously. Some of the best "research" I've found is by reading posts across many forums or finding reviews and then deciphering fact from fiction or sponsored information. Same as youtube or Wiki.

Could this be the best Round Ball Patch lube?

Thanks for posting. I'll look for it. Decent channel of his, but a bit condescending. Like in every video. Reminds me of Andy Rooney. But the content is certainly there.

    Pedersoli 1859 Sharps rifle bullet

My 1859 likes Christmas tree bullets, 60gr of Goex 3F and some corn meal filler. I make paper cartridges. I don't recall the diameter. Some with a tail, most without.

Stripped Fire Bluing Off Of Uberti Remington .44 Cal.

I removed the bluing on the loading lever as soon as I got my two-tone 1858. I was going for a look. So no complaints from me :) And I got one of those splotchy blued guns. It was on a Cattleman. I was going to give it a worn look anyway, otherwise it would have gone back. I never saw...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I put 14 shots through my new to me TC Hawken today. A whole lotta vertical stringing going on trying to get used to a full buckhorn sight at medium range (50yds). But since most of my shots were low with the various small changes I was making, I'm going to file a flat spot in my teardrop front...

Didn't someone just say that mink oil smells like popcorn? I'm going to have to open a can because there's no popcorn in the house 😇

Shooting the Pedersoli KY .32. Good day!

This rifle definitely cracks now. I thought it was the switch to Swiss.

    Flintlock not fully striking/closing...any suggestions??

I think I saw someone calling it a spur, too. Or maybe that's the part that prevents over travel. I couldn't find a picture labeling the parts of a frizzen :dunno: lol

Shooting the Pedersoli KY .32. Good day!

I usually start using the grains=caliber method and work my way up. Then back off, or decide like I did with this gun, that I can't do any better by increasing another 5 grains. But I did start with 20gr for this gun just because it seemed a popular choice amongst other shooters. If I shot a...

    Flintlock not fully striking/closing...any suggestions??

Cam. I knew there must be a proper name for it :thumb:

Shooting the Pedersoli KY .32. Good day!

Yep. load it with what it shoots well. And the higher velocity has to be shooting flatter. I should try it at 100, just to see what it drops. Might have to go to a bigger target than a 6" circle...

    Flintlock not fully striking/closing...any suggestions??

Just to rule some things out, with the frizzen spring removed, does the frizzen move easily from closed to open? Does it bind anywhere? With everything in place, does the frizzen seem to open harder than it should? Do you have other flintlocks to compare to? Maybe try polishing the top of the...

More than I do Kroil. That's for sure.

A little Pedersoli before and after. Faux Curly Maple

I did have some 18ga wire leave impressions across the comb of a hard walnut stock I tried to practice on. The 24ga wire did not need worked as hard to bend, so no dents or imprints were left by it. That's why I suggested using 24ga wire. or if I didn't mention it earlier, I am now :) And zinc...

Considering trying some 3F in my .54 GPR, anyone out there ever do so?

I was using Swiss 3F to prime a flinter yesterday and I could not tell one bit of difference from using Goex 4F for priming. I can certainly see why it's a favorite.

    Track's mink oil

I'm going to use some altoid style tins I have. I have a method I use where I take the strip of ticking, lay it on the mink oil, and use two fingers to apply pressure as I pull it through. Then I'll either lay the ticking on the bench or push it through a ring on a shooting bag.

Sure. Easy for them to say. They probably aren't OCD ;) There were a couple shots yesterday where I wasn't as close to centered as I wanted to be and I think it did not make a difference. But it still bugged me.

    why no bench stuff?

He's got 2" barrels on a few of his ML's. I have to pay attention when he hands me one to check out. I'll send you some pics privately.
