SOLD .45 Little Fellas Rifle Barrel

I bought this barrel from Jason from Rice at the Carlisle 18th Century Artisan showing Feb 2023. My plan was to build my kids a gun. I got everything together but I'm just not sold on the barrel. It was my fault, I just figured it'd be something kids could handle. It is something teenagers...

Haven't been on this forum in a long time. This conversation is reminding me why.

How you fill your pan makes no difference ...

I personally don't like mine too full mainly to keep powder from interfering the pan closing tightly. But I'm with ya. I am a 1 horn for everything guy, 3f in about everything guy and the only thing I do ignition related other than prime is I pick my vent everytime. It does help clear any...

    Carolina Gun / Iron mounted

Rob, Do you like those locks or is that what was requested? I used one on my first trade gun. It sparked ok but holy cow was everything sloppy. You could wiggle the frizzen easily, overall fit of the lock was pretty crude. I used a chambers Virginia in my 2nd trade gun. I really like that lock.

What length barrel is your turkey gun?

I built a trade gun with a 36" barrel and partly to have a shorter barrel for turkey hunting. I didn't know it should be longer, I mean it makes sense but I figured I could get a load combo I'm happy with.... Still not happy with anything beyond 25. I just want it shooting good to 30, I can...

    Another flintlock rabbit

Little did I know that would be my last rabbit off my first beagle. I bought Briar summer of 2011, and he was an exceptional hound. I never could find a hound that hunted with the drive he had. He set the bar', and none could measure up, I bought and sold hounds because he set the bar, and none...

    Another flintlock rabbit

I wondered that, I don't know. I just need to keep hunting rabbits with it and eventually catch on.

    Another flintlock rabbit

Another hunt down at my buddy Chris's in South Central PA. We jumped a total of 16 or so, but between both of us we only shot at 5 or 6. I seem to miss if I take my time getting "on them" and no, I'm not aiming , I just try to take my time and not rush the shot, but I have yet to kill a full out...

    First Javelina

Wow that's awesome about your hand made components! That's the way to do it, it all ads up to making the event all the better. I myself want to make a little faster homemade powder before I hinge my success on it! Congrats, that country sure looks different than what I'm used to here in central...

Food for thought on smaller calibers for hunting big game.

I never saw this thread until today. To the original post. I shot 5 does 21/22 season here in PA with my 45, .440 RB with 65 grains FFF behind it. I built a .58 this summer and shot 2 with it this past fall. They were all dead the same. I do shoot my 45 better. Is it the gun or the fact I have...

I agree, but there is some truth to shooting them through the shoulders to anchor them rather than not having a good trail to follow and potentially having no meat at all because you can't find it. I'm with you though even big calibers don't seem to knock them down, but it does help them leak.

    Squirrel Season 2022

I'm about to trap **** just to kill them too. I start my day job at 4am so leaving the house at 330, I see way to many **** and opossum. I hit as many as I can with the car.

    1 for 5

I got 5 shots at rabbits off my hounds in a short two hour hunt this morning. 2 of them were about out of range till I got the shot off but the others was just me being me, not able to connect on a running target. I have shot clays with my trade gun, and done real good on paper targets with...

PA flintlock late season flintlock hunters

I practice out to 100 offhand and I feel I can shoot good even that far. Very confident if rested. I shoot my .58 out to 100 and felt confident. Targets don't give me the jitters though. I missed one at 100 in late season, and I was rested. Can't practice shooting with nerves unless you shoot...

PA flintlock late season flintlock hunters

I hope you don't think I'm a purist. I just am not going to take time and effort of going to the woods, of getting a deer into range and then maybe get an opportunity and lastly hope my gun goes off. So I made it a priority to learn what it takes to make a gun go off everytime and how to shoot...

    Altoona Pa. ??

No it's held in Lewisburg, but the venue (The Country Cupboard) shut down because the government made it to hard to follow covid restrictions. So it was planned to be held in Altoona, then switched to being held in Carlisle. It'll be Feb 3+4 this year. It's an awesome show. I get a lot of my...
