What size ball for a .75 caliber?

Wrong info I just posted so deleted it!

What size ball for a .75 caliber?

Jan, A patch in a smoothbore does not need to be tight like in a rifle. as long as the ball is held centered in the bore and does not move forward when muzzle lowered, it will work ok. We see depictions of the Landsknechts of the 1500's, sometimes carrying their short guns muzzle down, so they...

    Zoomorphic muzzles on European guns.

Gents, in a recent thread, we got to discussing zoomprphic, or animal/dragon/monster head muzzles. Rather than "Contaminate" that thread further, here is another, or maybe more when I get time to look further! All best, R...

    Ottoman Guns

Peep or tunnel covered sights are seen early 1500's in Europe, Hector. The tunnel often covers a V sight.

    Hunting with 'Bess

A 'Bess will work very well for shooting clays or flying targets. I never consider a decent lock this size as slow, as there is an awful lot of stored energy ina spring that size!

East meets west. Peter Hofkircher C 1525

We need Rudyard here Barud, as he has copied a dragon head muzzle before now! I will have to think on this. That's the trouble when references are all in ones head! http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=18046&highlight=Dragon+head+muzzle This link may be pertinent to the way this...

Tob, I was meaning guns of Any kind, not just what we call hand gonnes....and I should have been more specific! Incendiary in China yes, as also was Roger Bacon's discoveries in England. The picture of that vase -shaped 'cannon' on a table firing an arrow, is from about 1320 If I remember right...

About the same as Europe then Tob? China had them by the mid 13th century, but so did Europe and Arabia......

Its odd Tob. I have never seen an actual early gun from China. Not an actual example. I Have read interpretations of what may have been a gun, but no example that I can remember.

Barud, I had not seen that illustration before. Thank you for attaching it! This is a time to say "Hmmmmm", and do some thinking! It is interesting that even the muzzle has the dragons head favoured at times in Europe.. Tob, Did the Chinese invent firearms? Gunpowder yes, but actual firearms?

When does a handgonne become an arquebus?

Tob, Funnily enough, I'd like to make both of the ones you show above! There are a few with the off-set barrel and they appeal somehow!

When does a handgonne become an arquebus?

In general true, Darto, but we also get hand guns that are attached to a stock with bands, and all sorts of permiatations thereof. No-one at the time was thinking how to make it easy to categorize these guns 600 years later . Best, R.

Tom, You can do the same, just take it steady and don't do anything until you know what it should look like! If you start with no real idea, it will look like that when you finish. :) ;)

Tob, You are very good at checking through Michael's old threads. I Thought (capital T!) that he said serpentine was still used with the early harquebus. Can you confirm I remember wrong? LOL! Rick, We have been around this mulberry bush a few times, hoping to shake out more facts, but they...

1st Experiment with various forms of Tinder Fungus to fire Snap Locks

Being short of birch trees here, I only use the horseshoe/hoof type Dale. Grows on poplar etc. Have a bag of chaga, but it looks and feels like cinder toffee!
