    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

That yellow grease sounds like ghee to me Rick. I even wondered if confiscated guns (after the Mutiny) had had acid or something nasty tipped down the barrels. Its unlikely but why so hard to find a decent bore ? Most neglected and found in shed type musket barrels are easy to clean compared...

    Carving antlers

Craig, We will be backing you up as you go for surgery my friend. 5th of Jan. Noted! In an email or PM, would like to see your new gun when it arrives too!

    Carving antlers

Good morning Craig, Trust you had a good Christmas! The antler was hollowed out using multiple drill holes, at all angles to get rid of a lot of the core, then a chisel/gouge etc to clean it up. both short 'legs were drilled out as well and that helped clean out the main chamber. Both legs were...

    beautiful matchlock

Tom, None of us start off knowing it all, and if we are honest, none of us will end up knowing it all either. We are all on this road together, and I like your enthusiasm and even old blokes can feel excited as we dig deep in this neglected subject!

    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

Its always been a mystery to me, how these barrels got so eaten up on the inside. Lying on the ground in a wet cellar possibly, but the outsides are usually decent.

    Carving antlers

LOL! The bloke who made that German one had likely made one before I think! I did a 1500's style a couple of times,

    Carving antlers

I can't see you getting anything that looks like original finish using wood burning or dremel. make some gravers and have at it. Here's a nice German flask (original) early 19th C I'd guess.

    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

Rick, If that narrow section mentioned above was two thirds way down the bore, that wouldn't be the powder chamber. I know the powder chamber hold s a fair bit, but a third of the barrel is a bit much! I once missed a two groove torador at auction, bore size about an inch. a fair walloper if...

    Help! Authentic?

Smoky, I believe TobJon has answered your questions very well. The gun is a bit of a hodge-podge and think they are asking a lot for something like that. If I had the time and made one I would ask no more and hope it would be "righter" ! LOL! I would not be happy if I'd made it, Smoky.

    Tusco-Emilian Matchlock build

Only trouble with a straight barrel like that, is you lose the architecture of most originals. yes, as Billy says, lead solder would work fine for pan, not welding.

    Matchlock hunting?!?

I think smoke is more natural for the deer to scent than human scent, Jay. It helps rather than hinders I found! Hunting with a matchlock takes time, so I have not done it recently, but it worked on mule deer out to just short of 80 yards with a 20 bore .

    Which Prime Powder 2F,3F,4F...Wheelock

Erwan, Its good to remember that the old wheellock target arms were mostly fitted with wing nuts on the sidenails, so the lock could easily be removed. The procedure was to remove and dip in water, shake, dry and replace. Keith Neil found out the hard way how quickly even a high end lock can...
