.50 caliber Hawken sighting problems, mine, not the rifle.

I realize this is almost heresy but my crappy old eyes, even with glasses, are really failing me. Is there a peep sight, tang or wrist mounted, that I can use on my Pedersoli Hawken 50? I understand it would lessen the value of the rifle but my sole interest is in shooting it, not sitting around...

Is it uncool to use Pyrodex?

Use what you have access to. It's a shame snobbery has to creep into every facet of life, even our hobby.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Had a good time, burned some powder. 25 yrds, I do okay. 50 yrds, I have a 50 caliber shotgun. The problem is, you have to see the target to be able to sight in correctly. I have tried everything I can think off. I even bought an expensive adjustable diopter sight to affix to my glasses. So far...

What Does Your Range Bench Set-Up Look Like?

Contained chaos. I have 3 Cabela's ammo boxes (unmentionables gear, tools and ammo) and a medium sized Dewalt tool box for all things black powder. When I go to the range, it isn't for a hour or two. Now that the weather is becoming more conducive to shooting, I stay and shoot everything I...

    Pietta 1858 C&B - Painful to shoot

I had the same problem. You have to hold the grip with your pinky finger below the grip frame. It takes getting used to but it can be done. The problem is even worse if you have big hands. Ask me how I know. You can tailor your loads too. I shoot 25 gr. Triple 7 FFFG with a .454 round ball. No...

    CCI # 11 Percussion Caps

Last week, I found #10 Remington percussion caps at the Boise Cabela's. I was surprised as they didn't have a limit on how many you could buy. I bought four tins and left plenty more for others. They were $10.99 each and I was glad to get them. It's been well over a year since I had seen any...

Any of you guys ever use one of these?

I realize this is a bit "unmentionable" but I fired my Mossberg Persuader 3" 12 ga. mag once with double ought buckshot. Once. My kid caught it on video but the language makes it unwatchable here.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today, September 08, 2022, pigs must be flying and hell has frozen over. I found #10 Remington percussion caps at the Boise Cabela's store. I have used them before and they are reliable. I didn't have the heart to buy them all, I bought half of them. 😈 (There really weren't that many to begin...

    So Much for Sharing

For their woke administration, I avoid Utube when at all possible.

    Beards and Mustaches

I've had facial hair since before it became the "in thing", since about 1978. I don't like to shave. Worked in a food plant so always wore a beard net.

    Beware

I used to drive stick only. My knees have convinced me otherwise.

Gave in to the nervous nannies

I don't consider myself a "nanny", I just don't like the taste of gunpowder. I don't care how hard you wipe it, there is still a residual taste. Having said that, I use the tube on the nipple and send smoke and junk out the muzzle. Just my opinion. ;)

    Beware

I shoot a .50 cal Hawken, percussion, it's the only "smoke pole" I own. I understand people's choice of a flintlock because you don't have the worry of finding percussion caps. I also have an 1858 Remington .44 cal "cap and ball" revolver. The Hawken is my favorite. I do not hunt, I bang away at...

    What are your favorite targets?

My favorites would be IHMSA targets, chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams. I gave my son all the ones I had along with the pantograph patterns I used to make them. Now, I like to shoot at clay pigeons...they disappear in a cloud of dust when you hit them. Our shooting range has metalic targets...

Noisy shooting - just for the hell of it!

Noisy shooting, just for the hell of it. That's why I take the Hawken to the range at least once a month. 😁 Great post/video, those folks know how to do it. :thumb:

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finally made it out to do some BP shooting today. Only got to 88º with a very slight breeze. Nothing to write home about but it was nice to make some smoke and noise. The shooting? .490 dia. round ball, 65 gr. Triple 7, .010 batch wet with Hoppes No.9 black powder bore cleaner, CCI #11...

    time on the range

I would love to be at the range but it's just too darned hot. 100°+ every day now for a week. This old body just does not react well to heat.

Midway - maybe wait a few months to order from them. . .while they work the kinks out.

It could be. I have had several issues with UPS. They wrecked a shipment of oil one time. The driver must have dropped the case from about three feet. Crushed the bottom cans and oil was all over the pad in front of the garage. I called them to complain. Got a return call from them, they said...

    Shots Per Shooting Session?

12 to 15 shots with black powder. A couple of hours. I shoot other stuff too, so that adds about another hour. Summer time is brutal out here. In Spring and Fall, I have been known to spend 4 hours or more at the range. More black powder rounds.
