    1858 Remington

If you lighten the spring by too much, it won't ignite the caps. Ask me how I know. If you tighten it in too much, the spring will dislodge and nothing will work that way either. Ask me how I know. I just use my left hand to **** the F. LLIPietta 1858. It works.

Cost of shooting muzzleloading shotguns for me.

I think if I did the math on what it costs me to shoot muzzle loaders and center fire rifles and pistols and my wife saw it, well....we don't have a dog I could share a dog house with. Anyone got a spare couch? I simply do not do calculations like that and leave them laying around the house! I...

Where do you draw the line?

Make smoke and noise. At least we don't have to worry about unfriendlies trying to take our scalps, our women, our kids, and our kinfolk.

Where do you draw the line?

I don't think there is really a need for two different forums, just a change in attitudes. Live and let live, I don't disparage those that enjoy the sport differently than I do. My Hawken came with the target sights with the little green neon "tubes" on the rear sight. As far as a Hawken goes...

Where do you draw the line?

    .223 Remington center fire. Happy?

    Don't know what I have!!

Curly Maple.... thanks. Now if I can just remember it.

    Don't know what I have!!

I've been active in black for about 8 or 9 months after a 30 year hiatus and I couldn't tell you what the wood is. I just know I really like it. As far as the numbers on the brass, I'm not sure what they would be for. I can't imagine an auction house doing something like that but who knows?

    Don't know what I have!!

I love the wood. If nothing else, it would make a great wall hanger over the fireplace but for me, I would see how much it would cost to get it in shootable condition. You can refinish the stock yourself, I just did my Hawken. Brass can be polished. Etc., etc. Great looking rifle with tons of...

Where do you draw the line?

I am sitting here just musing about what our ancestors would think about all this. Given a choice between their 1765 smooth bore flintlock and a .223 semi automatic unmentionable with a couple 30 round magazines, what do you think they would choose? Specially if they had about 2 or 3 dozen...

What brand is this older powder??

Ignore those that accuse you of crap like parading. They most likely wish they had a collection like that. It's pretty cool.

What brand is this older powder??

Back in the late 70's, early 80's, the DUPONT was what was available in our area. I haven't seen one of those in ages. Oh, BTW, I was shooting a CVA .45 cal. Kentucky back then, it shot just fine. My .50 cal. is a recent acquisition so I have no idea how well that DUPONT powder would shoot. I...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Yesterday, went to the range and adding to the air pollution south of Nampa, Idaho with the Hawken. It was BEAUTIFUL! The day, not my shooting. Although, even at 50 yards, open sights, bad eyesight, I was able to keep it all within a 4" circle.
  14. JamesA

    quit posting flintlock pictures!!

I certainly wouldn't mind acquiring a Hawken flintlock. Even a kit requires that "green stuff". About 4 gas fillups would be about the same price as a nice kit.....think it'll work if I explain it that way? Nah, I didn't think so either. :ghostly:

    Range box examples

WOW!!! Some of you have gone above and beyond with your range boxes. Some of them look like furniture. I use a Dewalt tool box for my black powder stuff and I have a generic tool box that I carry things like ear protection, safety glasses, staple gun and staples, etc., things that can be used...

That's quite nice, looks like something that might have a market.

    Cylinder loading stand

Any brass on a firearm is more attractive as long as you keep it cleaned up after shooting.

    Cylinder loading stand

Very handy item to have. Mine's store bought [below] and it was expensive, not as nice. This one's [above] nicer and more economical plus he has the knowledge he made it himself. They really are handy, much faster to load cylinders.
