Hi everyone new guy from nw Mt

Welcome from a neighbor in Idaho. I have a cousin just south of Hamilton, he won't shoot BP, thinks it's too much work. He'll stick to his unmentionables.

    Need help

    Sweet.

    One shot

My first shot is usually about 3 or 4 inches to the left and slightly high. The second shot and those thereafter are pretty much to the point of aim. Then along comes last time at the range and everything was to the point of aim, within a 3 inch circle. 🙃 Black powder can be maddening. But...

    Barrel rust.

Check barrels more often. That includes the barrels of any unmentionables you own. I check mine about every two weeks. Just checked the Hawken, patch came out nice and clean.

    Merry Christmas fellow hunters!!!!!

I've been saying that for the last 4 or 5 Christmases, "this may be my last" (77 now). Reminds me of that scene in "Little Big Man" when Dustin Hoffman and Chief Dan George go to the top of a mountain and Chief Dan George lays down, face up, and says, "I am ready to go great father, take me."...

Old Stuff, What Do You Have?

Oh! I have an 1899 Indian head penny in pretty good shape. And my wife's Belgian made percussion "boot" gun. Don't know the year. There is a photo of it on the forum under antique gun questions.

    Pietta Problem

I did some research from your original post and a couple replies. I had no idea that front sight screwed in. Never too old to learn. The JB Weld job looks good. I hope it works for you, it's certainly cheaper than replacing it.

    Pietta Problem

I have been subject to the curse, wrong place, wrong time all my life. I had to order mine.

Old Stuff, What Do You Have?

A piece of petrified wood I bought in a Springdale, Utah (Zion National Park) rock shop.

    Pietta Problem

FishDFly has the right idea. This is the loading stand I use. A real time saver. I have two BP cylinders, I can load the both at home in the comfort of my "office", all ready to go with the exception, I do not put the percussion caps on the nipples until I am at the range or in the field. I can...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Spent a couple haours at the range. 1858 Remington. Offhand. 25 paces. 25 gr. Pyrodex P (FFFG). I had one horrible flyer but at least "he" will walk with a limp from it, the rest were okay. We may have snow (again) in a couple days all the way through Christmas.

    Inconsistency

Welcome to black powder. I'd love to have consistent groupings like that.

Taylor vs. cimarron vs. Traditions vs. Pietta?

I have a Cimarron imported F.LLI Pietta 1858 Remington. It was marketed under the name "Preacher". It has two interchangeable cylinders. No zippered pouch, just a cardboard box. Finish is very acceptable. Fun to shoot with either cylinder.

    Need help, what is it?

My wife inherited this from her father. It originally came from the Altoona, Pennsylvania area. It's missing parts obviously, but any help identifying it would be appreciated. We have no back story for it other than her father said it had been in the family for generations.

    Pietta "Ivory" Grips

    Very nice revolver.

    Moving On

Point it across the stern, a couple of shots and you'd be across the lake. :ghostly:

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Hmmmm...hadn't thought about that. Well, there was a third BP cylinder for sale........18 shots before I spend the rest of the day reloading? BTW, I have one of those reloading stands for BP revolver cylinders, it cuts reloading time in half. I tried reloading my 1858 using the pistol's...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Bought a second .44 cal. BP cylinder for my Pietta 1858 Remington. Gotta wait for the rain to quit before I can initiate it through trail by fire. It will be nice having twelve shots instead of six before reloading.
