    Right handed shooter

Some caps like RWS and those made in Italy are dangerous. They are brittle and you need a full face shield or you will be picking metsl out of your nose and chin. even with safety glasses. I will use nothing but Rem and CCI caps.

Ideas for filling chip in stock?

When checkering I would get a stock with wood that would fuz up bad and some diamonds would break off. Soaking the wood with super glue let me make clean cuts. for a missing diamond I used Accra Glass with the brown stain added. a dab and let get hard, recut and they looked like new. The stain...

    Torn patches!

Ianh has the answer. You have done well searching out the cause. My neighbor loves the .50 and had the same problems. I told him the .490 ball is too small. he bought some at .495 and problem solved. He actually shot groups after. I use a .535 ball in my .54 and even lapped a mold to .540, shot...

Blown out patches? bore, crown, patching material, lube where to start?

80 gr is fine but for some reason all of the 54's I have shot including mine prefer 100 gr of 2f. Mine actually is more accurate with Pyrodex. RS. About the guys that lose accuracy, Bill Large told me a barrel gets "shot smooth" from the patches. Old timers suffered from it often and would...

I suppose if the bear is still comng and you have to use your rifle like a baseball bat, it would break.

Blown out patches? bore, crown, patching material, lube where to start?

I see burned out patches. The GPR has deep rifling so I would use a .535 ball and a patch that is tight. looks as if you have a gap for gas to escape.

    Homemade Squirrel Skinning Stand

I too skin in the field as it is warm out. But I like that idea and might make one to leave down in my woodsor mount to the Polaris.

    T/C Maxi Balls and Elk

The only thing I see that is a worry is the twist. 1 in 48 is the best for RB and maxi balls. My old TC would touch all 5 shots with both at 50 yards. I hate the modern rifles made for bullets with plastic on the butt. As for pure lead, nothing better and it has taken over 150 deer for me. No...

    Cataract Surgury and Shooting

Best thing ever. Been a while now and sights are still good but I need cheaters for close work and reading. I can read outside ok. I opted to pay for the laser method. The only thing to bother you is the clamp to hold yor eye open. I accused the eye doc for borrowing them from the doc that does...

    Kibler vs. TVM.

I have built many rifles from planks, 86 now and the skill has departed. But my friends, Joe and Pete have bought many kits from Jim. I have never seen such workmanship in my life and want one of my own but SS and Bidenomics is killing us. I have built many modern stocks from scratch and a few...

    First flintlock deer! So hooked!

Now my friend, I live across the border in WV, Bakerton to be exact and it does not smell! Way too hot to hunt as it is hard to age meat. I hate to cut and freeze deer the same day.

Okay, this goes against the grain for me but....

I used to track down deer in the snw and never failed but now with my ankle I have to use a stand. The secret to not being seen is to wear light colored camo or blaze orange. used to walk into the camo section of our sporting goods store we used to have and it was like a dark cave, not a...

    45 caliber conical

Yes, the twist will do well with both the maxi ball and a PRB. If you just hunt no larger then deer the RB is al you need. I have taken in the range of 150 deer with the .45 RB. Flintlocks. Everyone I knew at the clubs always told me the .45 was too small but I never seen any deer complain.

    Screws decorated.

Looks great but with my eyes, I would hunt for the right slot for the screwdriver.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Looks a little rough but a good try anyway. I have been making my own molds for a while out of aluminum but I use the cherry method and I made a vise to close to center.

    Another Roach Belly

The knife is just wonderful and a work of art. I too made knives but a mistake is tool steel. I get them super sharp but blood does a job on the steel.

    I need a buttplate

I am trying to redo a Traditions rifle that was given to me. Bad shape and it is missing the buttplate. This is the two piece stock thing, percussion. Does anyone know where I can buy one?
