    Ruger old army loads

    Ruger used .45 Colt barrels on the OA so the twist is wrong. They shoot best with about 20 gr and a filler.

    Failure :’(

    Nothing a backscratcher can't handle, looks just fine but the wad of paper will solve it. I would however use a piece of dowel down the hole. Put a dab of glue on the bottom and stick it to the ramrod with a gob of wax and send it down.

    Just let my wife clean your barrels, you wuill be sure it is not seasoned. All I need to convince is a look at our cast iron! The woman up the hill used sand from the yard to clean her frying pans and of course she had cats!!!

    Stopping power of the 1860 Army

    There is a simpler formula, velocity times velocity times bullet weight divided by 450,240. My old army gives me 1102 fps with a rb, 41 gr of Swiss FFFG so I get 385 foot #. Does a good job on deer I can say.

    Chopped Flintlocks. How early?

    Usually they cut them because of a broken stock. I actually built a half stock flint gun because I only had a short piece of wood left. I tell everyone it was to look like a repaired gun. It has acounted for over 150 deer. A pleasure to carry.

    TC barrel windage out by 20 MOA

    I have had bent TC barreks and used two wood V blocks and a large C clamp to get them straight on my bench. protct the barrel with wood under the clamp. I also use ball bearings on the crowns but I silver solder a rod to them and use lapping compound. the one shown by SDSmif is perfect, great job.

    What is your favorite wax for your stock?

    I only apply wax in the barrel channels and installing the barrel will squeeze out some to wipe off. This keeps rain from running to the pan. Prevents rust too.

    A few pics of some of my handmade stuff

    Fine work. I love a craftsman but there are snags around here I put up with. Everyone asks me why I will spend a day fixing something that can be replaced for $20. It is a matter of pride I guess.

    LOP question...........

    I agree about LOP, Thin shirt for 14" and hunting coat for 13-1/2". Since I started shooting all of my guns are 13-1/2, seems best for me. Drop is more important and I could never find the sights on a TC although it was a tackdriver, A human can not shoulder them. I fit my stocks so the sights...
