    Hello from Central Tennessee

    Welcome from NW Alabama!

    The Sherriff got it done!

I started out trying to get as much power as possible. With that, accuracy suffered. There was no way I could confidently hit my intended POA. So I backed it down to the most accurate load, then did penetration tests to see what the effective range was for that particular load. Then I backed my...

CVA RB only, minnie or maxi

I recently ordered a LEE 452-160-RS mold from Amazon to use in my 1:66 twist. It is a conical, so would take care of the roundball issue. But is also a short bullet and stabilize fine in the slow twist rifle. I get about the same accuracy as with my PRBs. Maybe they have a similar. 50?

It's all good. Sometimes I even laugh at stuff I'm not supposed to. 🤣

    The Sherriff got it done!

I tried a few homemade recipes and some other store bought lubes. But when I was working up the most accurate load it was the one that gave the best consistency for that gun/load.

Thanks for the kind words. Since you were more than respectful I will answer your question. Or, rather, rephrase my statement and tell you why. I want to hunt one with each of my capable guns this year. The weakest of which was my BP revolver. I have a lot of small caliber unmentionables and...

Well guys, I had my chance.........

Don't forget ya got an invitation to hunt this side of the line!

    The Sherriff got it done!

A small whitetail is definitely the limits of my .44 even with doing my homework. I have other unmentionable revolvers, but I wanted to start with BP and progress through my guns as the season progresses. It was a bucket list shot. Now that I've made it, I hope I never have to again.

The deer are thick where I live. I could legally shoot a deer per day for the season if I wanted. Of course I don't, and usually don go for one that small. But he was the right size for the shot I wanted to take. He was tender and tasty!

    The Sherriff got it done!

I understand and respect your concern. And to save you worry, that was a one time thing. I couldn't agree more. I spent a LOT of time practicing and removing variables as much as possible (verifying consistent weights and dimensions of the cast bullets, inspecting bullets for any defect, how I...

I have plenty of both. We rarely buy meat. But I also provide meat for my mother, a local children's home, and another local family. Between what I hunt myself and what is given to me by other hunters I usually process 10-15 deer per season. But then again, can you really have enough of either? Lol!

I normally would have let him walk. But a deer that small presented a better chance at a clean harvest. He still had plenty of meat. And yes. I cut them with a fork!

    The Sherriff got it done!

I recovered the bullet just under the hide on the opposite shoulder. Little deformation other that where it hit bone. I knew it wouldn't have the power for a big buck. But with my aim point it had plenty to drop him at that range.

    The Sherriff got it done!

I was told not to try, but I had to see. My goal this year was to take a deer with each gun I have, starting with black powder. After a summer of working up the load and practicing with my Pietta 1858 Sherrif I knew I would have to have a 25yd broadside shot with time to get a good aim. So, I...
