    Michigan

That is a long drive just for a whitetail deer. But a stop at the Hill Top Restaurant in L'Anse for a fresh baked Cinnamon Roll would make it all worthwhile.

Can "they" hear me? Do "they" care?

Wildlife triggers on movement. The woods can often be a noisy place, so animals are less spooked by noise than you might think. In windy conditions, with a lot of movement going on, prey animals will be even more wary than when it is relatively quiet. If you want to experiment during...

    More fun with Pritchett cartridges

    Mine survive. YMMV

    More fun with Pritchett cartridges

Not saying that what I do is the only way, but I ordered a .568 sizing die from Lee (custom order, $50.00) and after I lube my cartridges I run them through the sizing die to 'wipe off' the excess lube. (I cast .550 and size the bullets before making paper cartridges). YMMV

    How old are ya?

61 and change. Started shooting BP about 41 years ago, shooting unmentionables since 1967

    More fun with Pritchett cartridges

In reality, the original Pritchett bullet / cartridge did not meet that criteria as evidenced during the Crimean War and into the Indian Rebellion. The Original Pritchett Bullet design relied on close bullet to bore tolerances to work properly and were nominally sized .568 but due to the lack...

What's going on with Dixie Gunworks

This thread started nearly two years ago. I have had very good service from DGW over the past year. I did see a note on their website that they will be closed March 11, 2023 due to a staffing shortage. Seems to have become a thing on Corporate email signatures these days. I added "Does NOT...

Colonial American recipes that are common today

The pot pies common today evolved from an earlier form of cooking proteins by making a thick bland flour based dough formed into a 'coffin', placing the meat inside with herbs and salt, covering the 'coffin' with another sheet of dough, sealing it and then baking it in the coals. After baking...

Greetings from from the only state comprised of two peninsula's.

Everyone living South of Hancock (lift bridge) is a Troll. ;) Funny part is most of the troll tourists you run across on the Keweenaw are from Minnesota or Wisconsin. Copper Harbor is too far a Drive for most Michiganders (being called a Troll isn't meant as an insult, just an...

    Cap pinching

TOTW sells cones that provide a better cap fit than the Italian reproduction cones. For less money, but a little more fussiness, search for percussion cap keepers. They are soft vinyl rings that you slide over the cap and cone and help keep the caps in place before firing and also help keep...

    Hello from Michigan!

American Civil War Shooting Association. Somewhat of an off-shoot of the N-SSA. Friendly people. Check out ACWSA.org for info and schedule of events. I am not a member of either, just went to the one event to observe. They have smoothbore and rifled cannon shoots in Port Huron, and also...

    Hello from Michigan!

The ACWSA does some skirmishes at the Richmond Sportsman's Club. I went to one last year to see the mortar competition. Dangerous to have done so, now I want one.

Period correct knife for fur trade in western Canada 1800-1815

While a "sharp kinda narrow point" may be good for separating joints on critters, the fur trade trappers were primarily after the pelts, and weren't altogether concerned with precision disassembly of the animals joints. Sharp narrow points would be more prone to puncturing and damaging the pelt...

    I need a cartridge box

Watching thread. FWIW, not impressed with Lapierre Leather products. Saddened that VMA shut down operations before I could have received the expense pouch I had ordered. L.D. Hanning might be worth a look, but expensive. Blockade Runner carries buff slings, and also has some unpainted...
