    Bullet Boards...and things...

Pamtnman, I have purchased ebony (and other exotic woods) from many places over the years, so I have a fair stock on hand. I have had the best luck buying from established wood working places like Rockler, Woodcraft Supply, and musical instrument houses like Stew Mac and ExoticwoodsUSA. I...

    Another "dragoon" type pistol

Well....I'm off to the Mojave Desert to conduct a couple of weeks of rocket engine testing, so this project will be on hold for a bit. But today I cast and partially engraved a thumb piece for the pistol, contoured it to fit the pistol wrist, did the inletting, and then made the screw that...

    Another "dragoon" type pistol

In descending order from the things I dislike the most when building a Dragoon type pistol, 1) inletting a spurred butt cap, 2) inletting a pistol trigger guard, 3) inletting the rear ram rod pipe. One of the things my Mom always said about any task was "Worst things first"....then everything...

    Another "dragoon" type pistol

Several years ago now I had a .58 cal heavy straight sided rifle barrel that was too heavy and too short for me to do much with. I cut off 12 inches and turned it round to make a pistol barrel. I also had a maple pistol stock blank and some castings (butt cap, trigger guard, side plate, etc)...

JIM !! Yes....Really "small world" story !!! Thanks for the note and the picture. Nice to know there are still a few squids of our era out there floating around.

    Interested in starting engraving

In 1978 I was a junior officer aboard a Navy destroyer on a western Pacific deployment. We had been in and out of the US Naval base at Subic Bay. One day as I was on the pier, there was a small boy with a little portable work bench doing something for a sailor from another ship. I walked over...

Nifty shooting tool...at least I think so...;)

Rifleman1776, When I built the first couple of version of this tool, I was worried about the joints as well. That's why I tap all my ram rods for 10-32 rather than 8-32 and I only make this tool with 10-32 threaded attachments. Several people have asked me to make one in 8-32 because their ram...

    Bullet Boards...and things...

Longcruise.....sorry....I missed your question. I make the brass parts as well. I grind a form tool and then machine the brass base part on a lathe and then add the brass ring.

Nifty shooting tool...at least I think so...;)

SDSmlf........I think I'll stay with the $88 for now. A $100 would make it almost worth my time, but then I do a lot of this for the fun of it....Thanks for your cogent comments...;)

Jim.....thanks. It was a long haul, but well worth the effort......;)

Nifty shooting tool...at least I think so...;)

To all, thanks for the kind comments....and to Windini, I have a very thick hide ;) Some love this thing, others have thought it "too heavy" to carry or not HC or.....whatever. To each his own. I like tools of all kinds, so this was fun to make and it has saved my bacon a bunch out times...

    Two brass swivel guns....

Rich, Thanks for the comments. Yes, the drills are brand new but I think the India stone idea is great. Will do before I start drilling.

Nifty shooting tool...at least I think so...;)

With every new ML catalog or magazine I have received over the years, I have anxiously looked for new products. But what I was looking for was very specific in that I wanted traditionally styled, well made parts, tools, and accouterments but also something new. I suppose that this was a bit...

    Bullet Boards...and things...

A while back I made up a pick and brush set with ebony handles that I had posted. I was asked to make a set for a friend of mine and, at the same time, he asked about a bullet board. I had made one up for one of my .50 cal rifles a while back. It was nothing fancy, but I made it out of Kauri...

You are all very kind. Thank you. And yes....the shaped charge warhead thing is a kick.

    Horn powder funnel

Years ago I needed a powder funnel rather quickly and made one up from the copper shaped charge war head liner of a 2.75 inch rocket (long, non muzzleloading story) and a cut off .308 cartridge. Works fine…not very HC… Had one last tip of an all black horn kicking around on the bench for...
