What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Received my Quaker stock from Jim Kibler today. I'll be using it for the upcoming carving class held at western Kentucky University. This stock a lot of very even curl. It seems too nice to just practice on. Maybe I can make it half stock rifle or shotgun with it later. I also ordered the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I cut two more slabs off one the maple logs I have in my back yard. That's all I had energy for. They appear to have some curl. I'll work on some more tomorrow. I need to trim the three boards I have done and seal the end grain.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I have started to mill the logs from the maple that I had removed from my back yard. So far I have cut out one 3" by 6' plank. I have six 6' logs ranging from 24"to over 40" in diameter. This will make more stock blanks than I will ever use, but I couldn't see cutting them into firewood. I...

I filed the casting lines and gates off the trigger guard of the Kibler 58 kit. I also filed off the rivets from the pinned and epoxied ramrod tip. Stored my newly cast 530 round balls in some round tins I bought from the Dollar store. Marked the tops with a Sharpie.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I draw filed one and a half flats on the Kibler kit. I then tried out the new, to me, Lyman 535 rb mould I bought from the Log Cabin Shop. Round balls came out .530 which is OK, I didn't have one that size either. I've had several Lyman moulds cast under sized bullets. I'm using soft, water pipe...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I went to the Log Cabin shop in Lodi Oh today. This was my first, but not my last visit. Found a nice 31 cal 3/4" X 42" Rice barrel for a shaped stock that I have had for many years. I also picked up a main spring vise, a patch knife blade, and a used 535 Lyman round ball mould. This will keep...

Cleaned the 45 SMR that I shot yesterday. Used 60 grain of 3f Goex, 445 round ball with 18 thousands pillow ticking strip. Groups were OK. I may need to open up the rear sight to let in more light.

Draw filed the top flat on my Kibler kit. I need to find the chuck key, to the drill press, so I can pin the tip on the ramrod. May shoot the SMR 45 tomorrow.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I noticed a small gap on the butt plate of my 58 Kibler kit. I removed it with the use of a small chasing hammer. I need to start draw filing the barrel.
