What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I continued to work on the Kibler 58 kit's patch box. It's still a little tight but will latch. I made a pin block out of an old chair arm rest, then used it to line up the stock and thimble pins that were removed so I could pin the forend. That's all I had time for this morning, doctor's...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I reinstalled the rear ramrod pipe. It had slightly bent, after straightening it up it fit a lot better. I also worked on the muzzle cap, the sides that touch the barrel were a bit narrow. Some file work fixed that. This was on my 58 Kibler kit. I also bagged up 45 Lee 578 Minnie Balls. These...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Inlet the middle thimble on my Kibler 58. There was a small amount of wood to scrape off the stock to get it to bottom out. Drilled for the stock pin. I didn't break any drills going through the brass, as I did on the barrel tennon's. That's all I had time for today. Hopefully I'll have time...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I inlet the rear thimble on my 58 Kibler kit. I also finished drilling out one of the barrel lugs. I shot my Zouave on Sunday. Round balls seem to group better than the minnies I was trying.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Inlet the triggergaurd to my Kibler colonial 58 rifle kit. I also cast about 3 lbs of Lee 578 Minnies to be used in my old Navy Arms Zouave. I may try a few in the Kibler just to see how they will do.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I cast about 3 lbs of Lee minnies this morning. Bullets came out .580 diameter. These will be a snug fit in my Zoli Zouave. Mould says .578. Also did some more barrel inletting on my 58 colonial Kibler.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Received a new 578 Lee Minie ball mold. I hope this larger size will tighten my groups. I've been casting Lyman 575213 OS and regular, but these are too small, some will print sideways out of a clean barrel. these

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I continued to inlet my 58 Kibler kit. The wood swelled a little but with slow and careful spotting and scraping it is sinking into place, hopefully with no gaps.

    Inletting Black

I've used candle soot for most of my inletting. I have to be careful of false impressions.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I planed a small slab of the maple wood from my yard tree. The pistol size blank is about 2X8X12 inches. I waxed the end cuts. It will be a couple of years before it's dry enough to work.

What to use for a powder measure?

Made a 70 gr. measure out of a 300 win mag case that I picked up at the range. Cut off the neck using my harbor freight mini chop saw. then deburred it with a RCBS deburring tool. Will try this as a hunting load in my 45 Kibler.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I had a large, what think to be sugar maple, removed from my back yard yesterday. This tree was about 3 to four feet in diameter. It appears to have a lot of curl. I had the crew cut the butt log into 6' sections. I hope to make a few stock blanks for future projects. I may need a bigger chain saw.
