    What do I have here

Don't see any manufacture stamps ? Maybe one of the special edition match grade Remingtons made with a lothar fast twist barrel ?

Neat rifle !! The British proofs are unusual on this style of rifle.

    India Barrel Failure

Rigged barrel failure story. Throughout my 60+ years building & shooting muzzleloaders I've observed a few barrel failures as shown in the photo above & those were caused by not seating the projectile on the powder charge or having an additional restriction in or near the muzzle.

My new French Big Bore Smoothbore 8Bore

Many guns like yours were supplied to natives in Africa. Your gun is out of my collecting background but could possibly be considered an African Trade Gun ?

    Grease in Revolver

It's pretty much a fact that some of us old fart gun builders & mechanics get set in our opinions & how things work best. Since joining this forum some of the younger mechanics have taught me few new tricks !!!

    Grease in Revolver

Mike at 45D introduced this old timer to action packing :thumb: Not all shooters have gunsmithing grade screwdrivers that are necessary to reduce damage to soft screws found on many replica revolvers. Complete disassembly after every shooting session increases chance of buggering up screw...

Whats your favorite muzzleloader you own?

Bill your posting means much to me !! I'm very pleased that we were able to become friends through the forum & 'you' became the latest caretaker of these two fine Jaegers. Who they went to had priority over $. Throughout my 65 years of collecting & shooting many fine original European rifles...

    6-Bore Dangerous Game Gun

Very nice ! Your correct many English cartridge double rifles were back action. I was referring to English big bore English muzzleloaders having primarily front action locks to maintain higher recoil strength though the wrist area. Big bore flint & perc Jaegers have long been my personal...

    6-Bore Dangerous Game Gun

NEAT GUN !! This gun resembles smoothbore Market Gun & I 100% agree with Feltwad that the barrel was originally 'much' longer. The slight ding between surface of the breech plug & barrel indicates at some point the barrel was removed from the breech for service & rear sights was added lto use as...

    1800s percussion rifle identification

I also agree that this is an India mfg shotgun. The wood is typical of guns made in India & see the lock is equipped with a fly so is better quality than most early manufactured M/L firearms.

Interesting tidbit on Hy Hunter; WW-2 hero & actor Audie Murphy was a gun collector & part owner in Hy Hunter. The company also bought & exported tons of captured German military armament back to America.

Danish Target Pistol, request info. on Maker

Excellent video ! Beautiful damascus patterning can be found on high end English, French & Austrian firearms. LaPage produced some similarly beautiful workmanship. This Danish pistol is equal or better to the best makers I've owned or observed over my 60 years collecting. The damascus twist...

Danish Target Pistol, request info. on Maker

I agree, have also experience Belgian proofs on several high quality French pistols i've owned, this pistol has me puzzled. Great having knowledgeable fellow forum members like yourself who are willing to help identify firearms. What I originally thought was a sword stamp was my error. Just...

Danish Target Pistol, request info. on Maker

Below are photos at different lighting & angles of the marking near the breech that can be zoomed in on. Depending on angle it appears to be a V with encircled R above but intricate patterning on the barrel's surface makes identity difficult with my vintage eyesite. * Note how various lighting...

Need help identifying this old muzzleloader

I concur with TFoley & MLE1822 , this is a Defrocked 1851 Swiss Federal rifle. This rifle is very similar to one I examined recently on a table at a Boise/ Nampa gun show, the original sights had been removed & the barrel had been re-lined to shoot round balls rather than original styled .41...

Danish Target Pistol, request info. on Maker

Hi Martin , much thanks for your reply & information. I do believe the maker's name is Delcomyn, I was in error the last letter 'n' represented 'in before Kiobenhaven. According to the information you provided it appears there were a few gun makers named Delcomyn. This pistol's very unique lock...
