    Why do my countersinks look horrible

    Lock the piece to be drilled in a drill press vice. Drill your hole. Without MOVING ANYTHING remove the drill bit and chuck up your countersink. Drill your countersink, it will be perfectly aligned. Use a light hand and a dab of beeswax. Best to run your drill press pretty fast. Works for me

    It's a Spanish navaha. Probably made in Seville Spain. Can't tell from the pictures, does it have a lock on it?

    Strengthen a main spring..

    This is actually a period correct fix, I once examined an old original caplock that had a thick piece of leather jammed into the mainspring, looked like it had been in there a very long time. If nothing else it would be a good way to find out if in fact your mainspring is the problem.
