Got a $1,500 budget! What should I look at?

Kibler looks so good. I can see one in my future, but I am getting a TVM this week, so that will keep me busy. I am always looking in the classifieds for a Kibler southern mountain rifle in 45.

What tools needed for lock repair?

I have a L&R RPL lock that needs a new tumbler. What tools should I use? I saw TOW had a lock spring compressor, in fact they had two versions. I was thinking of vice grips with wood buffer to protect the spring. Anyway I want to do the job right, so I thought I would ask. I don't mind 20...

    Is this tumbler broke?

I don't know how or when this happened. I did not shoot this rifle for a few years, and I noticed the chip when I cleaned it up after shooting. I did not have any issues, but I'll order a new one.

    Is this tumbler broke?

This tumbler looks chipped/cracked on the half **** notch on my L+R RPL-03. So do I need to order one?

    Frizzen fit?

Very good deal that Dixons will help you out. I was in their shop a week before Christmas and his inventory was pretty low due to the plague disrupting things, and demand.

Convert TC .50 flint to .58 flint

    I have a green mountain in 54 caliber in a 15/16 barrel. I don’t know if a 58 would bore into 15/16. I think Hawkens came 15/16 and renegades 1 inch.

Thompson center old or new ****?

That cut flint is a sythetic. RMC calls it German Jasper, and it is their hardest flint. They are short, and by the way 7 bucks each. I swapped it out for todays hunt with a longer blonde french. I have to say the jasper appears harder.

Thompson center old or new ****?

I am using blonde french, black english, and german jasper?. They all crumble. It sparks well and its reliable, but it is a flint smasher. I tried shimming the leather, longer and shorter flints, all with the same results. I have a RPL on a renegade. No issues with that one. I think the...

    Pennsylvania flintlock season soon!

Acorns are in short supply in most places here. I think near corn fields would be best. I think I will hunt with a crew of guys tomorrow if the weather permits. Saw 30 deer doing drives last Saturday. Most I was in a while. Same place, hopefully same activity.

Thompson center old or new ****?

So the Lyman frizzen geometry makes up for the old ****? It looks more curved than the Thompson frizzen. I just put in a new flint, and it broke in two pulls. RMC is close to my house, so I can run over there when they open back up.

Thompson center old or new ****?

Does Smith/Wesson T/C still provide new cocks?

Thompson center old or new ****?

Thanks SMO. I guess that is good news, because maybe a new style hammer will be easier on the flints. I also saw discussion that a new Lyman frizzen modified by RMC helps too. I don't know if that is true. The Hawken I have has a Green Mountain 15/16 inch barrel in 54 caliber. For a factory...

Thompson center old or new ****?

I looked for pictures, but I can't determine if this is the old or newer version ****. It is pretty good at eating up flints. I hope I can get something friendlier to flints.

    Speer balls

Went for a drive out to Grice to get 10 boxes. Zero in stock, so guess I'll have to wait if they get them in.

    Speer balls

The guys I hunt with have always claimed Speer balls are too hard and don’t flatten out. Hornady is preferred choice for 50 or 54. Anyway I can only find Speer, so I would like to get 600, and just use those. So what about the hardness factor? I’m thinking BS.

    Flint leather

I used old wallet leather in the past. Good recycle/second use. I got an old wallet in my range box waiting to be used.

    Pennsylvania flintlock season soon!

I’ll be in 4D. Amazingly the snow is melting off. I guess in the 50s tomorrow with rain all day. Then it will be in the teens. I have boot “chains/cleats”. And they are worth their weight in gold hunting on ice.I’m lucky I will be hunting with a dozen or so guys, so we should move those deer.
