If I wanted a buffalo rifle.....

It's interesting to read about the best caliber for hunting buffalo / bison. Then I think back to when the Native Americans were doing it with bow arrows and lances long before they got firearms.

If I wanted a buffalo rifle.....

Many years ago, I took a class at my local community college, the instructor pointed out the it was highly possible that by the time they got to the bottom of the pile, several days may have passed. But meat was meat, they couldn't afford to let it go to waste. It got used.

How hard is it to make caps?

Get onto YouTube and enter 'making percussion caps', that ought to open up a whole possibility of videos to watch. I spent all afternoon watching them couple of days ago.

    What caliber rifle to get?

I always found it interesting that hunting animals you could use a smaller caliber than when you were looking down your barrel at another human. I have a Napoleonic war Baker rifle in .62 caliber and a Civil War Remington Zouave rifle in .58 caliber. I carried a 5.56mm M16 during my military...

    Cap or flintlock

In the fast dimming recesses of my +67 year old mind, I remember reading about the mountain men preferring flint over caps. Their quite good reason was I might use all my caps and find myself up a certain creek. If I use flint, I can always get a spark from the flint and avoid that creek...

And as the 60s song says "and the beat goes on". I am quite new at ML, so I try to appreciate that everyone has some sort of favorite something that they will defend to the bitter end.

    Brass

I was in during mid to late 70s, with the 1/10 Cav at Ft. Carson, CO. If it moved, salute it. If it didn't, whitewash it! Spent time racking the rocks in front of the Troop HQ building. Good times had by the NCOIC!
