Mineral Oil, Carnuba, and Bees Wax

This stuff works great. USA made, think it came from Tandy. Used it on a late 1940s elephant hide police motor officer jacket. Went from stiffer than roofing tin to water buffalo leather soft. Does not take much if the leather is warm when applying. Treatment lasted a good 6 months. BUT, it...

Round Ball performance story and question

Grew up in western WA. Black bears, cougars, elk and dog sized deer. Aunt and uncle had a creek side apple orchard. They had bear hunters with Airedales over pretty frequently. 2-3 bears each time.

    Squirrels are starting to whittle!

Season has been open since mid month here in TN. I live on 30 acres of pecan groves and mixed hardwoods. Naturally overloaded with them. If our tenant is home, no squirrel or raccoon hunting, she’s a wildlife rehabber. The neighboring 19 acres is an orchard we sold in 2019. Mostly Eastern Grays...

    That's a brown hare!

Nice job! We have some here that a friend swore were Wallaby escaped from a zoo or circus. The meat is as tough as overcooked grass fed beef.

Have my eye on a nice ML buck this year.

Nothing but does, coyotes, bobcats and the occasional passing through hog on the cam here. Sometimes the neighbor kid “sneaking in” to go fishing. About once a month see our tenant out checking mushroom logs. Bucks are scarce in my area. Antlerless limit is 3/day and can hunt all 3 seasons.

    Start season in Spain!

Very nice! I miss Spain, did not want to return stateside when our rotation ended. Rota November 1995 - May 1996.

Round Ball performance story and question

Several on the news out of Memphis over the last decade. I know they are in Shelby Forest State Park, as are small sounders of feral hogs. As the crow flies, we’re about 18 miles east of the big ditch (MS River). Have something destroying nurse logs in our seasonal wetlands. The game dept swears...

    50 Caliber PRB with FFFg

The TC .50 I inherited last year always shot best with 70-80gr loads. My buddy Doug would pour in 20-30gr of loose 3F T7 topped with a 50gr pellet and a 240gr sabot. He was madder than a baptized cat when I loaded it with 80gr of Swiss 3F and a Maxi, and out shot him. Still have to work up a PRB...

    Another shipping war story….

For years, our carrier was great. Packages to the porch. Treats for the dogs. Signed for and hand delivered when appropriate. Then my 92 year old father in law died. ANY and EVERY package over 2# must be picked up at the post office. Our driveway is “dangerous” to back out of (we have a circular...

    Can You Help?

I just got back into sidelock rifles. Hunted for 35 years with a “dirty thirty”, an Ithaca M37 (would sneak it out while Dad was at work) or a Glenfield M20. Bought a Savage Axis package rifle in .308 for hog clearing. Literally gave it -and- the .30/30 away. Was issued an M16A2E3 (Seabees only...

    How old are ya?

Have one, but freely admit that I am tone deaf.

    Spectators

Had a coworker’s kid (12) going on and on and on at the farm one day. Loaded 1 chamber of my ROA, with 1 of my hog killer loads. Pointed it downrange and touched it off. Zack’s dancing up and down like he’d eaten an entire bag of coffee beans. I loaded the next chamber, but a couple felt wads...

    How old are ya?

Chronologically 52. Physiologically mid-70s, signs of a life well spent hunting, fishing, rodeo, motorcycles (since 1987), military… Now, in marriage age I’m at least 520, 2nd redhead wife… 🤣😂

4F, Its Not Just For Priming Anymore

I woods carry my ROA with 40g of 3F T7. Then a .457 round ball, topped with T17 lube. That is 5g over the can’s max load listing. Recoil is shall we say “brisk”… 🥺 That load will hole a 5 gallon bucket of cold roof patch, the long way. Have tested it against a feral boar (killed with a 7mm...

More from my late dad's safe...

Exactly. The “stuff” is just “stuff” w/o your memories attached. Every time I shoot my 1st .22 or 1st 12g, my grandfather is still right there, been gone for 40 years. They were his first. It will be the same for you. Every time you use his gear, his hand will guide yours…

    $18 range box

That’s how mine is. 20mm cannon ammo can, .45/.50/.54 projectiles, multiple cans of powder, half a dozen large tubes of T-17 and Bore Butter, 4 cleaning kits worth of rods and tips… Add the 7.5” barreled Old Army, and trying to tote 2 Plains rifles in gun socks… I really like the OP’s kit...

What would make you break out your wallet?

Right now I feel well served with a .45 Ruger Old Army revolver (hybrid of Remington 1858, Whitney and Blackhawk), .50 TC Hawken, .54 Great Plains Rifle. IF I could buy another right now, a caplock double barrel in 10-12-20 gauge. We own an original Moore and Harris English double, but it is...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Barrel is some kind of funky inside. Can’t find the rod the .54 brush fits on. The .50 is now clean as a new whistle. Next step, grip enhancement.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I might could get you a few water moccasins… Pond is full of them this year. Can’t even jump in to cool off. I leave the copperheads be. Have a “pet” that lives in the greenhouse.

A Christmas meat hunt with the munchkin
