    Handmade Miquelet lock.

Grzrob: True, but one the of the strengths of those locks was that you really didn't need a knapped flint like the other flinters. A flint spawl was enough. Especially on the locks that had a grooved frizzen. Slowmatch Forever! Teleoceras

Damn, this forum got quiet. How about it everyone? No new projects? Anyone have a new Matchlock, Wheellock, etc on order? For me I have an 8 Bore Matchlock Musket on order from John Buck. He is also building me a .58 long barreled Handgonne with a stock that fits over the shoulder...

    want to buy a matchlock

Jumpshot: Yep, that's about right. Lucky for me, the German Muskets had a transition from the sear bar trigger to the later type during the 1570's. The original one has a sear bar trigger which is my personal preference. So Brünhilda will have one as well. Slowmatch Forever! Teleoceras

    want to buy a matchlock

Jumpshot: He is building me a late 16th Century, 8 bore Matchlock Musket based from an original Suhl Musket that he owns. That ought to be a fun one! Slowmatch Forever! Teleoceras

    Production matchlocks

Bapfreak: The only one I know of is the Matchlock Arquebus sold by Historic Enterprises. I bought one of those 8 years ago. The only thing I didn't like was the finish. After rubbing some linseed oil onto the stock, then she looked much better. This one is made in Europe. Hope...

    What is a "musket"?

Gentlemen: At least can we agree that Muskets whether from the 16th Century or the 19th Century are just a fun way to spend the day at the range, woods, etc? I know I just LOVE all of my girls..:youcrazy:..err.. Muskets. Slowmatch Forever! Teleoceras

    What is a "musket"?

Bryan: The term Musket originated in the 16th Century. There were three main types of military arms at that time that were named due to their size. The Musket was the largest of the guns of the time with calibers ranging from .75 to .95 and so heavy, a unipole musket rest was needed. The...

    want to buy a matchlock

Oldarmy: I second Ezekial's recommendation. I own three of John Buck's arms with three more on order. He will make the Matchlock exactly to your specification. As plain or fancy as you like with your choice of caliber. Plus he is a super nice guy to talk to as well. Slowmatch Forever...

    pyrite

Tinker2: The sparks are coming off the pyrite, not the steel like with flint. Not all pyrite is the same hardness. The wheel has been cutting grooves into the pyrite with each shot. Pyrite is an iron sulfide (FeS2) which will create a spark when struck against any hard surface. The...
