    That’s the plan! My only previous shooting experience is skeet and a matchlock once, so it will be a good test to see how hard it actually is to learn matchlock shooting. According to the book on colonial Fowlers, the club butt matchlock is where the club butt Fowler evolved from.

    Some of the schematics on that site have mistakes, so be careful using them. The button placement on the tinder lock is completely wrong on page 8 of the pdf and they had a wheellock pistol (now removed) that was wrong in every mechanical detail.

    Thanks for the thorough explanation! The Capnball channel has a video on how even antique muzzleloaders need a modern proofing to be shot, so I wasn’t sure if Germany was the same.

    I currently have only 2F powder so I was planning on shooting that in the two arquebuses this week. After measuring, the snapping arquebus is .40 cal and the petronel is .50 cal. I am planning on using powder, ball, and tow. Does anyone have powder load recommendations?

    I have an old truckers hat and huge over my regular glasses safety glasses that came in very clutch when I shot an arquebus without a flash guard. A brigandine or gambeson also probably helped to protect the shooter… and being used to living a life where everything was terrible all the time…
