A Lefty Caywood / Roby Northwest Gun

DAVE MARKOWITZ: NO NO NO......do as IanH post #12 suggested..until you find the sweet spot your rifle loves! You have great groups...3"! The problem could more than likely also be flinch? Have someone with knowledge shoot your rifle and compare ! After you have experimented to no avail...

    Japanese Matchlock Bullets

Absolutely correct...my father (living in Corpus Christi, Texas) told me later as I grew up, that Japanese ships for years prior to WWII, would load up with scrap iron/steel at the port of CC. It was a massive prized export business! We were attacked with American steel!

    Correct?

Cannot answer your question directly; however, if it excites your interest in shooting a matchlock weapon that may or may not be 100% historically accurate...the price is right.....you really can't go wrong in the purchase. If shooting it gets you hooked on historic weapons, you can always sell...

I'll bet 98% of you did not know this fact !

Phil I am aligned with your thoughts. Even tried 2,3,4 teabags at a time, foreign, domestic....all tasted yuck. I'm more of a stiff Coffee, Scotch or Vodka fan...but stick to 1-2 fingers at a time. I can't imagine those early settlers coming off a life-time of 100% beer/wine and never a taste...

    Think it'll work?

Sure looks like your touch-hole is low in the pan. Maybe just the photo?

    Very Interesting video...

Look at the painting at 1 minute, 30 seconds. I don't know if this painting was of the French/Indian War or Revolutionary War. In this painting at center are soldiers in green uniforms with blue shoulder/arm bands, scarf/fringe leggings, also with flintlocks...question: Look at their hats; fur...

    Which Prime Powder 2F,3F,4F...Wheelock

28 shots in a row....amazing! Note: I did notice the pan cover was affected but thought that behind the wheel was more of a delay culprit than pan cover....obviously I was mistaken...will concentrate more on pan cover movement which may have been more of a ignition problem than I thought! I...

    Which Prime Powder 2F,3F,4F...Wheelock

Objective reduce (impossible to eliminate) prime powder burn build up (mixed with pyrite dust) from interfering with the locks' wheel rotation. Only prime on barrel side of the wheel helps to a degree. Does using 2F/3F instead of 4F make a difference? Does B/P manufacturer or prime quantity...

Inlay and decoration in the pre flintlock era

I have to think about that question. If I didn't survive the war...with my last breath laying face down in the mud...I might care less. If I survived.....I would restore it to pristine except for my initials and date in the stock, hang it on the wall for posterity for someone like TobJohn 400...

Inlay and decoration in the pre flintlock era

I decorate ALL my firearms with a personal scratch, dent or two or three or more; depends upon use!!! Only the never used ones have no personal "decoration"!

    Wheellock Project

Henry: Thank you! Way back post #102 I mentioned that I enjoyed watching blacksmiths work horse shoes as a teenager, but this 19th Century mechanical Treadle Hammer forging a barrel into shape is something I am totally unfamiliar with.....and imagining your early lessons on its use must have...

Flint62Smoothie: This is on the trunk of a 300+ year old massive 200' Shumard Red Oak in our backyard..is this tender fungus, chaga, or just a growth from the tree? It's about 6' up from the ground.
