    Potential Newbie Questions

    Indian Made Muskets ?

The continual discussion about Indian muzzle loaders comes down to money, ability to make necessary improvements, and personal requirements. Those who can get the high end guns and bad mouth the low end constantly are making those with limited knowledge and income hesitate or even decide not to...

    Indian Made Muskets ?

They can be the answer to a limited budget with a little attention. Mine was worth the time and effort I put in at a price I could handle. Just worked my way to a usable piece that shoots better than me. LBL

When to test fire a new build?(flintlock)

In the days when barrels were hammer welded from flat stock proof firing was a necessity for determining the barrel was sound. Today metal technology produces barrels well beyond the strength obtained by hand welding for use in a black powder gun. If barrels are from modern makers I would...

powder in the pan ignites powder in chamber

Larry Pletcher is a resource I have enjoyed reading. His experiments give a really good picture of how the flintlock works its magic for me. I know how to fill my pan and get good ignition consistently through his work! LBL

What have you done, or do, to improve/maintain a consistent shooting score?

I try to exercise upper body each morning for about half an hour. I hold and practice mounting my gun during the day and try to get out to shoot at least once a week. Lately getting to shoot has been a problem. I need to get out on good days and make smoke! LBL

I have four guns from Access Heritage. They are all shooters but there are things that need to be worked on to get them working properly. They are low end kits that fit my budget and let me shoot historic guns. LBL

    Rust In The Bore

I seem to be staying well ahead of bore rust by using Lanolin based Fluid film as the treatment for my guns after cleaning the fouling from them. It stays on the metal and seals out moisture well with the lanolin wax. I have learned to wipe out the bore with two dry patches before using several...

    Cold! Still Shoot?

Not prepared to go until warm weather comes back without shooting FDC so I shoot when I can snow and cold included. Snow shoes get me up back to access my target, ball trap and I burn powder!!! Well, slap my face!

I shoot a FDC and have determined that if I’m not keeping my cheek firmly on the stock when I fire it bumps my cheek bone. Keeping the cheek where it belongs in a snug weld no problem. I learned to pay attention to form. LBL

Anyone here have experience with Military Heritage .com ML's?

If you build a TOtW kit or any kit which requires drilling the vent you are doing the same action for the same reason , making a functioning flintlock firearm. You are converting a manufactured part to shooting condition and are responsible for making a usable gun. You are equally responsible...

Anyone here have experience with Military Heritage .com ML's?

The OP of this thread certainly got a lot of opinion in the posts here. I suspect he will spend a lot of time pondering them. My experience has been a successful one with Military Heritage guns only because I was not expecting a gun that would not need to be worked on for best experience...
