Pedersoli .58cal Harpers Ferry Flintlock Pistol

At the recent fall encampment I attended I got to shoot a flintlock pistol and became interested in doing some shooting with one of my own. When I got home my son told me about a gun for sale in a nearby town and I am now in possession of a .58cal Pedersoli 1807 flintlock pistol. It is most...

The original poster has not responded to any of the posts made. I wonder if he found a cure?? LBL

    Rifles and humidity

When much younger I spent a year in Southeast Asia fortunately near the coast as the heat and humidity was bearable. Now when July and August heat and humidity from S. C. come I have a hard time dealing with it. I have lived in Maine most of my life and dread summers misery. love the rest of...

Military Heritage made heavy trigger pull Fusil de Chasse

I have a FDC from Military Heritage and had the same problem. I determined that the sear notch on the tumbler was too deep and soft soldered a brass shim to the tumbler and shaved it down til the sear had a reasonable notch to lock on. I now have a secure lock up that releases at three pounds...

    Elephant powder, how good?

It would seem to me that free powder is not to be rejected simply because you have to clean more often. It will still give you the enjoyment of Muzzleloading and you can save the better quality stuff for real precise shooting. I used a couple cans years ago and do not recall any issues with...

    Belgian flintlock repro

I have the top one on the list. The Charleville was purchased for reacting the Arnold Expedition celebration in 1975. I fired a lot of blank rounds but never live rds. It is a 5/8ths bore and Belgian Proofed. It is hanging on my living room wall LBL

    Bare Ball Shooting Smooth Bore

The speed that NSSA shooters are firing at might be the reason for a cook off. I think it is a competition between units of shooters and timing counts as well as accurate shooting. The only cook offs that I have heard of occurred in that type of shooting. LBL

    Bare Ball Shooting Smooth Bore

It would seem that there are two separate methods to be used in different shooting scenarios from the length of this thread. I am a proponent of bare ball ,meaning my powder, treated paper wad ,grease ,ball ,and treated paper wad over ball to prevent movement off the powder. This loads easily...

    Big Bore Flintlock

That would take the enjoyment of Muzzleloading guns to the extreme. It looks punishing to me!! LBL

    Shoot in’ both?

My shooting has been mainly learning the flintlock smoothbore for going on three years. The 20ga flintlock has been the most challenging firearm I have shot. I started with U Ms as a teen and graduated to cap and ball revolvers and rifle musket then T C cap and flint rb rifles. Now except for...

Do you prefer Real Black Powder or a BP substitute?.........Why?

Black Powder is the only propellant I can use for my flintlock so the subs are out. I tried pyrodex when it first came out and found the same issues. Gave the stuff away and have enjoyed shooting real gun powder since! LBL

    Smoldering wad

I like the borax soaked paper myself. No soldering and wads are more uniform. LBL

    Nosecap-less

To get back to no nose pieces on a gun I have always felt that placing a nose piece on a thin wood stock weakens an area of stock that would best be left at its full dimension. I like plainer rugged looking guns that can be used well and still look good. LBL

    Bare Ball Shooting Smooth Bore

Shooting bare ball must mean a bore size ball that has to be forced down on the powder? I cannot feel comfortable loading my 20 guage with a ball under bore size and moving around while hunting knowing the ball can move off the powder charge. I need the security of wadding! LBL

    Favorite Smoothbore

I think that gun fits the story very well. I tend to follow my yankee ancestors when it comes to keeping perfectly good stuff that just needs a little fixing. Looks really good to me ! LBL

    Practice does pay off.

I have finally started to see some results from my Smoothbore practice and equipment maintenance. Since properly fitting the barrel pins I have eliminated my random hits issue and allowed my hold and sight picture to show a true point of aim impacts on my targets. this target is the best I...

Mine is not high end but shoots better than I do. I like to believe l will improve if I keep at it long enough! LBL

.50 or .58? Mostly target, some hunting?

The 58 will be shooting a ball in the area 57 cal and that will be close to historic calibers. It will also be lighter in the barrel With the larger diameter bore. Would be real nice In flintlock. That is a perfect mix in my mind. LBL
