Why are shoulder stocks so popular on the replica 1860 Army and 3rd Model Dragoons?

The carbine uses the same frame (slightly modified to fit the stock) and cylinder as the revolver so spitting from the barrel/cylinder gap would be the same. If a conversion cylinder is fitted the gap still exists and the problem doesn't go away even is smokeless powder is used. It would do...

Saw an odd smoothbore in a LGS today

"SPESCO was an importer based in Atlanta, Ga. They imported inexpensive firearms from all over and sold them in retail stores such as Kmart, Western Auto, etc." "They were imported to the US by various manufacturers and sold mostly in department stores, hardware stores, and outdoors retailers."...

    1851 Grip Question

EIG, located in Florida, was an importer of cheap firearms and later became FIE. Their black powder revolvers were made by various manufacturers so searching for any parts would be frustrating. FIE has been out of business for many years.

    Epoxy Can Be Cured

While you don't run across them everyday it isn't unusual to sleeve chambers down to a smaller caliber. I expect it would be fairly expensive to have it done. The chambers would have to be reamed to the same size first and exactly 60 degrees to each other and then have the sleeves installed...

    80 cal german horse flintlock

I used the flint I had for my Pedersoli Brown Bess.

    Savage Civil War musket.

If it measures .605" then it has been bored out to a smoothbore. The front band is on upside down, the U should be on the right side and reads with the muzzle held vertically.

    Hy-Hunter Buccaneer questions

It's been many years since I shot mine but I used a flint from my Brown Bess and a .735" ball with several patches, a lot of fun. Keep digging because you are not likely to find a but cap for it.

    Savage Civil War musket.

The bands are standardized and interchangeable for each model. Examples are all 1842s take the same bands, 1861s including contract guns, take the same bands and so on. Reproduction bands and new old stock parts are available for most US Civil War muskets. Is your Savage an 1861 pattern in...

    Gunsmith Who Can Thread Barrel

With the tooling available from Brownell's most gunsmiths can fit choke tubes, not a difficult job at all. You may want to search out a smith that specializes in shotguns though.

need help identifying this BP derringer

Classic Arms dumped most (?) of their inventory in the early 80s. I bought several kits at about $22 each at Kmart at the time and I believe that was the end of Classic Arms though some of their guns have been reissued by other companies.

    Mowrey rifle Fourstock attachment?

Do you suppose the dowel was glued to the forearm at one time and the glue has failed? The glue joint would be about 50 years old now.

    Euroarms Remington info needed

I have no idea why that web site is still up but Euroarms/EOA has been gone since about 2008 if I remember. I used to be set up as a dealer through them but don't remember doing any business with them because of their pricing setup and preferred to buy from Taylor's & Co. The photo was taken...

I was going to say a broken mainspring but it looks like Phil got up earlier than I did this morning.

Is the back end of the barrel rough? Edit: Place a sheet of fine emery cloth or sandpaper on a flat surface and gently smooth the cylinder face. (thanks Phil).

1861 Pietta Colt Navy Barrel Length

Taylors & Co. lists the 7.5" barrel, interesting though EMF lists an 8" barrel. I had thought all the Navys were 7.5".

    ELG flintlock

It's not a flintlock but rather a percussion (box lock) gun. The ELG stamp is a Belgian proof mark and welcome to the forum.

Isn't this interesting...a cap gun...I had no clue!

A friend and I found a mint 42 and a mint 55 rifle behind a bureau in the attic of their house back in 56. I remember opening the tape priming door to see a mechanism that was identical to our cap guns.

    WANTED stock needed

No, they are not close to an 1861 Springfield or contract. The Colt and LG&Y were by themselves. https://dunlapwoodcrafts.com/military-stocks#14 How bad is your stock broken (photo)?

    Anybody know what this is?

I seem to remember these available as a really inexpensive kit back in the 60s and possibly earlier but I could be confusing this with something similar. I would not exceed 10grains of 3f.
