    Change the flint first. Get one that is longer. It will strike the battery higher, bringing more spark to the pan. I do think it looks like a quality Siler lock. I have several and they continue to work quite well.

    My first rifle build, I tried cherry. I had no point of references at the time (40 years ago) and only had some woodworking finishes on hand. I used Minwax cherry finish on the stock with boiled linseed oil rubbed in.
