    Another Trade Gun finished

I like it! I think the first trade gun I saw of yours was a type G with a lighter patina (a bit more than this one). Made me want one of your builds.

You do it well! Is this “light” patina?

    Trade gun trigonometry

I am not an expert, but have studied archery a bit. From this I believe a lot of native archery used a pinch grip. Pinching the arrow between thumb and index finger. This helps keep the arrow on the string. Arrows of the time had a self nock that didn’t snap onto the string to stay in place.

You are doing much better than I am! I got stalled on my Ohio build due to ice storm damage cleanup and other life events. I am taking inspiration from your progress!

    Question about Steel for Springs

15N20 will make a fine spring. It is, or is similar to a steel that is/was used for saws and is used a lot in damascus knives. The N is for nickle which helps it stay unstained compared to the darker steel finish in the damascus (often 1080 series steel).

    New tool ! Forge ! :)

That is a good price! I bought my anvil and blower before the Forged in Fire show and built a Tom Lively forge for making knives. That would have been 2006 or so. I find gas to be more convenient, but coal or charcoal forges is better for large work.

    New tool ! Forge ! :)

Sweet! I do mostly gas now but started with charcoal. I keep thinking about building a coal forge since I still have my Champion blower.
