What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

It is called a side slapper or mule ear lock. It cocks out ins of up. When the cap is struck it fires straight into the powder charge because the nipple screws straight into the barrel.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I got the lock in place and a trigger working. Ignore the barrel fit, it does go all the way down in the channel. The trigger was tough because this lock requires the trigger to push back against the sear bar instead of up.

    Ohio Rifle

While not a “kit in the current usage, Petaconica offers the parts for the Ohio rifle. I amusing a stock and barrel provided by them to work on an Ohio inspired half stock. I am using (or attempting to use) a side slapper lock In place of the more usual lock.

    Chemistry Question

A taste test would not lead to good outcomes I am sure! And since others are offering their patch lube of choice here is mine. Olive oil, which was known as sweet oil back in the day. As for applying it, I have two methods. One is to cut square patches, put them in a faux rawhide pouch...

My first flintlock - Kibler WoodsRunner kit

I needed a drill to enlarge the barrel pin holes on mine. The holes in the stock were pilot holes. I didn’t need a chisel nor blade of any sort at all to assemble my Woodsrunner. I did do a bit of amateur carving which did involve chisels etc. Filing took more time than any other part of the...

    closed Frizzen

My guesses based on the pictures and video. Does the frizzen move freely by hand? Does it feel like it takes very little to open and close it by hand? There should be some resistance.

    closed Frizzen

I am no expert but these are Possibilities: 1. Flint is too short or hitting at wrong angle. 2. Bad interface between frizzen and frizzen spring. 3. Weak mainspring. 4. Frizzen spring to strong.
