    New tool ! Forge ! :)

I made one of those when I first started forging knives back in about 2006. Worked great but charcoal was expensive and I did have access to hardwood to make my own. Nice looking forge!

    New tool ! Forge ! :)

Yes, mostly knives. Here is the last one I finished, twisted 1084 and 15n20 with deer antler and birch bark. I have a bunch of unfinished blades but I got inspired to give a pattern weld a try for this one.

    New tool ! Forge ! :)

That is a nice looking forge and it will be great when you have it working. I have a gas forge, can’t beat it for convenience but it is not so good for localized heat or big, oddly shaped pieces.

Rob M. Mentioned by The Woodland Escape

I think you will enjoy his videos. Speaking of trees, he was an arborist by trade and has at least one video where he rigs lines to take down some trees over his chicken coop!

Rob M. Mentioned by The Woodland Escape

The Woodland Escape is one of my favorite YouTube channels. Peter Kelly is an inspiration to an older guy like me, his energy level at 70 or so is pretty amazing! He also just happens to be interested in things I like such as blacksmthing and log building etc.

    Why Kibler

Jim Kibler, before he ever made a kit, was and is a high end builder of custom longrifles. He knows design and history. He is also an engineer. His kits are the best available as far as I can tell. I have assembled one and was amazed at the fit and quality.

Here we go again! Looking forward to watching the build. As for how long you keep it….If there is a pool, I will take “Less than 3 weeks after completion! Bu I hope you get to keep one for yourself some day!

    Cowboy Action Shooting

It is tougher than running cartridges. However it is doable.mI have shot several tough six stage matches in a non-SASS category called Jesey Wales. You use up to 6 cap and ball pistols for the pistol, rifle and shotgun targets. Lots of fun!

    Cowboy Action Shooting

I shot a lot of matches with Pietta ”Colt”pattern pistols. Trick is to learn how to make them run. I used lots of grease over the balls.

    Round ball spin.

Spin is on the axis…or should be. I wouldn’t think a pure lead round ball would need a hollow to expand at reasonable shot distances.
