Opinions about Jonathan Browning Mountain Rifle

I have one in 50 cal. Browned barrel. Beautiful gun and great shooter. $600 was a steal for yours. Congrats! I purchased a spare mainspring on Ebay, and have spare sear springs. The guy on Ebay still has one new old stock mainspring left up for sale. You should buy that.

North-South Skirmish Association "Camp of Instruction"

As a person who just joined the N-SSA last fall, and just completed my first full Nationals at Fort Shenandoah last weekend, I would highly recommend folks take advantage of this event/offer.

Missing wood between barrel channel and lock inset a problem?

Jim Kibler discusses this in one of his FAQ videos. His stocks have this missing wood. No issue. Wax the barrel channel to prevent moisture and rust, as said above.

    1861 Springfield Barrel Patina issues

Agree. Don't remove breech. Air may or may not work. Go to local Napa car store for grease gun fitting and buy a grease gun. It works really well.

    1861 Springfield Barrel Patina issues

Just clean it up and go over it with some 0000 steel wool. It'll even out. That's a beautiful gun. Agree on ditching the Pyrodex. Get some 2FG black powder and minie ball.

How do you stabilise your rifle for load testing/sighting in?

I don't sit at a bench anymore. Doesn't reflect my offhand shooting. I use adjustable standing supported setup at my range for sight in now.

Would really like to see pics of the underside of the barrel/breech, and the inside of the lock. Easy to remove those in a couple of minutes.

FOR SALE 1865 Enfield for sale

The British-made Parker Hale muskets have progressive depth rifling, just like the original Enfields. The OP says this one is from the 70s, so it is British-made. It seems in nice condition with a good bore. It's worth every penny of what he is asking. My guess is that the reason this hasn't...

    WANTED Smith carbine sear/trigger spring

Here is a photo of an original "gull" spring and the replacement "Hood" spring. The Hood spring is made of piano wire and can be adjusted to get the trigger pull where you want it. My original Smith with the gull spring had a trigger pull north of 15lbs. After replacing it with the Hood spring...
