    Dixie Gun Works Tennessee Flintlock

The Dixie GunWorks Tennessee Mountain Rifle, in .50 calibre & good condition, usually sells consistently for $700.00 to $800.00. The cheapest I’ve seen was $589.00, back in April 2022, but that gun was not what I would call “Good Condition”

    Crockett rifle loads

I don’t shoot a Crocket, but I do shoot a .32 calibre…30 grains of fffg, and blue pillow ticking patch material…gives me 1” groups at 50 yrds. Wonderful squirrel/rabbit load.

    Classic muzzleloader photos.

https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/tales-of-makin-meat.151252/ I took my dog hunting yesterday for a dove hunt as well. It was hot, hot, hot…and the pollen from the Kosha about killed me. Still taking allergy meds today…

    What's causing this?

You’ve got flow-lines…you need to be a bit higher temp when running ball. Best thing I ever bought for casting lead, was a lead thermometer… https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FBPGYV8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I get my best pours between 700 and 725. Once the mold...

    Tales of Makin Meat

I love to hunt. It’s been a passion for my entire life. Fall…to me, is a season that signals freedom. It’s a time of year to venture out into the field in search of game. Just got home from our annual family Dove Hunt, and finished a nice dinner with my wife. I normally take photos of my hunts...

Anyone else excited for squirrel season?

Just got home and finished a nice dinner with my wife. I took my dad with me today. He’s getting up in years, and I cherish these times that we have together. It was such a fun time hunting with friends and my cousins, today. My cousin’s son hunted for the first time today. He’s 9 years old...

    Making stuff

Yeah…that is different. I’ll admit. I had just finished making the shooting frock, and it was pristine. My daughter knows my love of history & muzzleloading…so she asked me to wear it, when I walked her down the isle. I was surprised…but happy to do so. Good memories….

Do you prefer 3F or 4F for priming ?

@smo On hot, humid, days…there’s just no stopping the pan from turning to black soup. I’m constantly wiping the pan, dumping about every 15 minutes…I’m going to try your alcohol idea…

Going from wheel weight to pure ML lead. ¿Possible?

Note to self: Pick up gold spray paint…

Do you prefer 3F or 4F for priming ?

In my muskets, anything with a large lock, I’ve used 2fg to prime the pan. 3fg works well, and I use it often, but I much prefer to use 4fg to prime the pan. There is a difference. You only use a couple grains to to prime the pan, and at 7000 grains to the pound…that’s a lot of difference.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I bought flannel and heavy cotton canvas at Joanne’s Fabrics today. Flannel for cleaning patches and making char clothe with the grandkids. Heavy Canvas…I’m going to be doing some load development, shooting under sized Balls out of my .40 calibre. See how this goes…

Setting Triggers , before or after cocking ?

By the time the gun is against my shoulder it is cocked, and as I line up the sights…my finger sets the trigger, then lays against the stock…waiting to slip down and touch the front trigger, at just the right moment. After 40-ish years, it’s become instinctive. I don’t even think about it; it...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

How do you like those? I’ve hunted with mine for 25 or 30 years. I keep wanting to try the English style, but now I’m rather attached.
