This was still the technique in 1916 in the British Army shooting manual.

    Enfield P53 reproductions

Thank you @Whitworth What have you heard about the Pedersoli. They are pretty pricey too, but are they worth it?

Which of the Enfield P53 reproductions is the best, and which are the ones to be avoided? thanks

Recommend a book about technical aspects of flintlock arms and basic tools

According to an article by Balazs Nemeth on his excellent web site (https://capandball.com/) there are over 77,000 BP enthusiasts in Germany. There must be a few flintlock Schützen near you. Although out here in the American West "near you" can mean a three hour drive. Best of luck and let us...

Recommend a book about technical aspects of flintlock arms and basic tools

This is the set screwdrivers I use. For the price it's very good. https://www.brownells.com/tools-cleaning/general-gunsmith-tools/screwdrivers-sets/smart-drive-90/

Excellent video and podcast from "I Love Muzzleloading"

We are very fortunate here in western Washington to have an excellent store, Muzzleloaders Supply, in Puyallup. The owner knows better than just about anyone else how ML is doing out here. You might want to interview him for your podcast. He is very generous with his knowledge and has been at...

How to refinish a Traditions Mountain rifle barrel?

It is a CeraKote finish. Mountain Rifle It looks out of place on a reproduction like this, and it marks up very easily. Just leaning it up again a plywood table top in my shop left a mark. I think @Dale Lilly has the right idea. I read somewhere that acetone will remove CeraKote. Is this...

How to refinish a Traditions Mountain rifle barrel?

Maybe it is a bad idea, but I'm thinking I might strip the finish on the metal work and barrel on my new Traditions Mountain rifle and refinish it. I'm not sure what kind of finish it has now, but it is like an anodizing of some sort. It marks up pretty easily, and appears to be superficial...

    Traditions Kentucky Flintlock help

Muzzleloader Supply on River Road in Puyallup, WA, usually has Swiss. That’s where I get my powder. I think they are the only ML shop left in WA. Then there is Buffalo Arms in Northern Idaho.

new Traditions Mountain flintlock rifle question

That’s definitely something I want to do, #JB67. I don’t know how they finished the metal work. It looks like browning but it’s a flat coat of some sort. I’m thinking of stripping the barrel, trigger guard and butt plate, then applying browning. Has anyone else done that?

    About Selling Books

True enough. You must live in a state that is still relatively free.

    About Selling Books

Sad but true. I had some historically important items that belonged to original settlers in a state here in the PNW. No museum wanted them. A museum in the country these settlers came from, however, was eager to get them.

    About Selling Books

This is a great idea, but unfortunately public libraries, especially school libraries, won't take books on firearms because they are not "politically correct". If they do take them make sure they won't just put them in the dumpster.

new Traditions Mountain flintlock rifle question

You're probably right, @rafterrob. The frizzen spring needs to be eased but other than that nothing needs to be done to it, at least as far as I can tell.

    About Selling Books

That's good advice from @#blackpowderbill It's a lot of work to sell them yourself. If there is a reputable used book dealer in your area they would probably love to take them off your hands for a fair price. You won't get as much as you would if you did it yourself, but you would save...

new Traditions Mountain flintlock rifle question

Went to get some supplies at the local muzzle loader shop, and because I want to see this shop stay in business I had to buy a new gun. That's the kind of giving person I am. 😇 It's a brand new Traditions flintlock Mountain rifle .50, and it's the first new ML I've ever bought. Every ML I...

Why Are So Many Guns For Sale Here?

Sadly, it is a possibility, if unlikely in the near future, that ML may be the only firearms that a lawful person can legally purchase. IF Newsome has his way with the proposed 28th Amendment, AND some states pass more and more draconian laws dismantling the 2A, watch sales of ML take off like...

    SOLD SOLD—Colt 2nd Generation 3rd Model Dragoon

I'm tempted, but like you I would like to hold the thing in my hands before spending that kind of money. Still, those second generation Colts are sweet.

Why Are So Many Guns For Sale Here?

If there is an uptick in sales here on this great site, then it probably has to do with the fact that is a great site for selling ML. The prices are reasonable here, but I wouldn't say there are a lot of bargains. My personal experience buying has been extremely positive, and I highly...
